New Dell IPS S2721DGF 165hz gaming monitor

Having watched the F1 race on my PC, I am very glad I got the LG now, gamer 1 mode which on the desktop and a anime game vesperia didnt look too bad vs sRGB, watching a sports event was very different, blue, red. green looked artificial, in some cases even seemed like they were glowing, a quick flick on the mode to sRGB, problem solved.

I also tried auto HDR on the xbox in vesperia, my first thoughts were the brightness was way over powering, illumination been part of HDR (and those displays which dont have enough of it considered poor, like my LG), I had to turn the brightness down and luckily I was able to, but in terms of what HDR does for the colours, it was ok, it managed to do add vibrancy without making things like skin look weird, so it is cool I can play with these things now.

I turned off eco power saving, as it was causing weird flickering, and also in gamer1 mode there is another setting that moves contrast dynamically called DFC, I also disabled that.

Well, I now have my new Samsung G7 (which for the 27” was a bargain £429 in the BFS) and it is streets ahead of the nano IPS panel.

Really glad in the end that 1) Dell messed me about with multiple delivery delays to the point I cancelled my S2721DGF, 2) I was able to see this panel for a week with the LG850 that I ended up returning.

The Samsung is just better in so many ways (e.g. far better contrast, to me colours are much better, 240Hz support, etc etc..) Yes, the viewing angle of a VA panel may be worse, but then I don’t intend to look at it from a 170 deg angle. (only one person would ever use this monitor at a time where they will be sat directly in front of it)

If anyone has a relatively new monitor I would hold fire for as long as possible. With the release on the new Xbox and PS5, technology will move along quite rapidly now (and get cheaper, although Brexit may mess that up!) as there is a huge market place for a decent/cheap HDR1000 4K monitor which the manufacturer know they can make a killing on.

Well, two of my three have died, and Dell have kindly offered a full refund for the three. All three go back on Thursday.

Great monitors, but clearly some reliability issues.

i come back to this topic to find some info every now and then ... but sadly i can see its still only about not being able to get the monitor.. :(
I guess I was lucky to get mine (ordered on 12 oct got the monitor 28 oct..)
I did order DGF but i got DGFA

I am really happy with it.. only thing I am really interested in is that line @60hz.. I wonder if they will make a firmware update?

The 1000R curve killed that one for me :p

Samsung are the only vendor with such an aggressive curve. Everyone else is 1500R at the absolute most, and that's for ultra-wide panels! The G7 is just a regular 16:9! Such a curve is too much imho.

Are there any other monitors with exception of LG850 - on the same level as the S2721DGF?

The Omen 27i can't be much different - it has the same panel as the Dell - not seen them side by side myself, but my m8 who got me my Omen also somehow managed to get a Dell even though he only ordered on the 15th NOV. He only wants one of them and is keeping the Omen. He had them running side by side for a day to see if he could see which one was better and what one he was keeping. He's decided to keep the Omen over the Dell.

I will try and get him to offer it to people on here first before he sends it back!
out of interest is there anyone that would want to collect it from the Kent area?

Probably a stupid question but would connecting the USB downstream to an xbox series x allow me to use the 4 USB upstreams for Xbox accessories such as a mouse, keyboard, headphones or hard drive?

No idea, its a try it and see, but I would give the storage its own usb port as thats bandwidth important, same with headphones so no interference.

Share mouse and keyboard and hope it works ok.

Your question does highlight that the xbox needs more ports.

Not sure if it means anything but my order placed November 16th and delayed until January has just updated to 'In Production'.
