New Dell IPS S2721DGF 165hz gaming monitor

Hi,

I have a problem that I don't understand with this S2721DGF and how to fix it:

I have the PC connected with DisplayPort and when I start cold, the boot is not seen (the message "No DP signal from your device. Enter Power Save Mode" comes out.

As soon as the windows starts, the video magically appears.

If I press reset (immediately after cold power up), the boot shows.

With the HDMI instead, there is no such problem. With the old monitor (Dell U2312HM) I didn't have this problem with the DisplayPort.

In the monitor there is no option to disable the power saving and I also tried to set the DisplayPort from 1.4 to 1.1 but nothing has changed.

The video card is a Nvidia GeForce 750 Ti and I also updated the firmware as recommended here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers...fi-update-x64/
but nothing has changed anyway.

I also tried to change some settings in the bios, but nothing.

Can anyone give me some feedback about their joystick and the buttons behind the panel?

The plastic slightly flexes around that area for me. More so that I expected. Anyone notice this or is this a issue I could raise with Dell?

Do you have two screens? Even though the Dell is set to primary the boot up sequence is on my second monitor and the Dell doesnt show a picture until windows starts.

Had a google, found this, unsure if any help.

You might need to disable CSM mode within the BIOS. Hopefully you are running Windows 10. Read up first.

yes, i'm using windows 10. But to disable the CSM (after checking if it works if i see the bios screen), i have to convert my disk from mbr to gpt too, otherwise it won't start ...

but if the cause is the CSM, why does the problem exist only with a cold boot?

Even tho I have used a DP cable in the past there have been times when getting the POST screen etc to display a problem when using it. It didn't apply to my older Benq monitor with a DP cable tho.
Using the DP cable that came with this monitor I saw that it did apply. So I disabled CSM and now it works perfectly fine. I had previously installed W10 on my drive not using MBR, I suppose that negates the need for CSM support for me.

Someone else in another thread within this forum noted that as your question has come up before.

IIRC it was a couple of years ago when I last decided to buy a monitor. I got so despondent with the build quality and "faults" with what was turning up (Samsung and LG) and at over twice the price of this Dell I gave up and continued with my venerable Benq. That was with 32" 4k to 34" UW screens. Of all the hardware that I have buying a new monitor is often fraught with problems.

Good luck with number 4.

Thanks - looking forward to it. Funny how bad my old screen looks going back to it.

Due to be delivered today by UPS, was out for delivery but now saying delayed due to “operating conditions”...

The plastic slightly flexes around that area for me, feels sort of loose. More so that I expected. Anyone notice this or is this an issue I could raise with Dell?

Anyone got any thoughts? Wondering whether to return or not.

Hello all. So, I finally settled on this monitor having seen this thread a couple of weeks ago. I briefly had the Iiyama GB3466WQSU but sadly that did not work out (see Iiyama GB3466WQSU threead). I was initially looking for an UW and had the Dell S3220DGF as a fallback non-UW option. My budget for a new monitor was up to £600 and I was surprised how difficult the search would be! However, after experiencing the dreaded flicker with the Iiyama and hearing that the Dell S3220DGF can also have issues (I understand VA panels are more sensitive), I made the decision to go for the S2721DGF – inspired by the various posts here. I also learnt about the various discounts and to my surprise I was eligible for a discount via work, so I could get the screen for £330 – which is amazing value.

Having had the screen for a week, I am very pleased with it. I intend to upgrade to UW in the future, but not until they are offer true HDR and are much better priced (might be a long wait ). For the moment my dual screen set up (using my trusty 8 year old+ Dell U2412M as the second display) gives me what I need for productivity (due to home working) and I now have a primary gaming/work monitor :D.

Things that have impressed me (comparing to the Iiyama and my old Dell):
- Sharpness of the display
- Colour
- Responsivity (I now understand the difference between 60Hz display and 165Hz! Wow)
- Build quality (Standard Dell. I like the fact it comes with 3 year warranty as well. No dead pixels etc - So far so good!)
- Design (I don’t like gaming aesthetics and was worried about the LED blue lights on the back – so I was surprised to find I have kept them on. I think the design is actually professional and classic modern Dell)

Although I loved the curved Iiyama UW – which makes sense for that size of screen, I have been pleasantly surprised by the 27 inch 1440p display. I thought I would prefer a 32 inch display at 1440p, but now I have experienced the sharpness on this display, I don’t think I would want to change this.

So far all I have done to set this up (all very simple) is the following:
- Installed the Dell monitor driver (https://www.dell.com/support/home/e...g/0-Y0lvMUxvM0ZpK2dBLzEza3hFeEcydz090/drivers)
- Set windows 10 to 165Hz
- Set windows 10 to use the Dell ICC profile that came with the driver
- Using the display with an AMD RX5700 and everything has been detected without any issues. Freesync is on etc.
- Set brightness to 25% - everything else as per the factory.

I look forward to seeing some reviews on this monitor. I was brave buying the Iiyama before any reviews had come out, so hopefully the professionals will say some good things about this display in due course! Will wait and see. Personally, I am very happy and for the price (with or without discount) it seems to be a steal for the features. Hopefully this feedback is of use to others.

Thanks, D.

Finally got mine, but it wont shift up from 8 bit colour, or anything over 60Hz, ive installed the firmware upgrade for my 980Ti, to allow it to use DP 1.4, I've got the dell monitor driver, and have just updated my Nvidia Drivers - What else ?

I can enable 165Hz now, but im stuck at SDR in Win 10

Sorted, on all 900 Series cards, you have to use HDMI to be able to use HDR - Ho Hum. We live and learn. So I'm down at 144Hz - not sure if ill notice the missing 21Hz
