New essential Android apps thread

thanks. how does that work ?

you create your own playlist (house mix) i assume with google play music and then download it.

is anyone using google play music server and how good is it ? how much data do google give you for music storage

I have a 64gb memory card and i am trying to offload a lot of stuff to the cloud if I can.

I'll grab a few screenshots to show you in a bit. You get to store exactly 20,000 songs on google's servers, doesn't matter how big they are.

thanks, it says up to 50,000 on mine ? does that mean im lucky haha

its going to take like 6 hours to upload my music. i better get preparing.

This cloud stuff is all new to me.

As above, there's no file size limit on the songs you can have, just a 20,000 music file limit.

I've been using it for my less listened music and it works very well on O2 3G (which honestly is perhaps the worse 3G connection in terms of speed :p).

You get a download option for music stored online. You can download the tracks individually, as an album and/or playlist:

... And I just realised how poor HTC Gallery's new picture editor is now. It was working great on the previous versions but the latest update to it seems to complicate things and stretched my image as above. What picture editors is everyone using?

EDIT: Seems to upped the limit to 50,000: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/1143668?hl=en-GB

You can add up to 50,000 songs (up to 300MB per song) to Google Play Music from your personal music collection using Music Manager.

Does Google music still encode everything to 320Kbps MP3? That was my main gripe with it, I have mostly FLAC music and having it downsample to mp3 seemed illogical considering there's no size limit to the upload. Even if there is very little difference in quality to human ears between a well encoded 320 MP3 vs a FLAC, I have lossless music for a reason, to get the best out of my music player and earphones/apt-X bluetooth devices!

wait it out mate. foobar are producing an android player.

Last time I checked Google Music accepts FLAC but it oddly converts them to WAV for storage, and even stranger they still stream as 320kbps MP3.

I still use Poweramp for my FLAC files. Wish Google would adopt FLAC faster :(.

You have GSam battery monitor installed with notification icon enabled?

I just checked GSam and indeed the same icon can be turned on/off:

No need :p I use GoneMad music player, superior to Google music though no cloud music storage support - Not that I use or would use cloud storage for music since I have a 128GB SD card!

Look at it, just look at it!

Bought manual camera, really nice camera app with a nice ui, not as fully featured as camera fv5 or a better camera but overall I prefer it.

Lcamera isn't bad either but the ui is a bit meh.

The default CM12.1 camera seems to work really well for me despite it's simplicity. I am using a custom kernel though which sorts out the crappy sony camera drivers. I bought Camera FV too but only use it when i need to make manual adjustments.

Does anyone find that Google Play Music seems use quite a bit of battery?

Right, since removing all my (3x I think there were!) battery management apps and solely using Ccleaner/SD Maid my phone's (Z1c) performance and battery life has improved unbelievably - almost back to how it was at the start! I'm happy but are there any other 'maintenance' type apps that you lot swear by that are also worth consideration?

Apologies for being incredibly lazy, but are there any decent dark Lollipop themes for Cyanogen? Specifically for my OPO.

Well there were quite a lot for CM11, but not as many (yet!) for CM12.

It is very much down to personal taste, but a quick search in the Play Store brings up a few.

I am currently using DARK MIOS - CM12/12.1 but that will probably be a bit too 'colourful' for some!
