New essential Android apps thread

I'm after a free, non-obtrusive battery monitoring app, mainly to watch my batteries temp. Seeing what's heating the battery up in the first place would also be advantageous :p

That looks cool. Do you have to use it as a text app on your phone? Does it show other notifications (Gmail etc) on your PC?

Don't think you have to use it as default, I used mighty text before Android introduced the feature to allow you to set a default SMS app. It only shows text notifications.

As for Pushbullet, it can show all your notifications from your phone from any app, it also allows you to reply to any message based notifications as well (text, Whatsapp, Hangouts, etc). There's a whitelist too to hide certain app notifications if you don't want to see them on your PC.

As mentioned a few posts above, GSam is pretty good in it's free form, often pro version on sale too.

Thanks mate! Does it only run on demand too? It's not one of those constantly on battery apps that claims to be 'saving' your battery when in fact it's doing the complete opposite

Anyone got a decent train app?

One I use at the moment (Train Times UK) seems to have become a bit buggy as the developer has stopped updating it. Quite happy with it but the platforms don't show up for any london terminals :(. Just need one that lets me put favorite routes for minimal clicks.

I use the trainline app very useful to see live train departures and arrivals!

I get an average (according to GSam) of 2d 4.3h (7h 57m active) on my Moto G 1st gen 3G.

At the moment my apps have used 33.5% battery in current cycle, 0.1% of which is GSam.

You can disable startup monitoring etc, it is pretty versatile

I dont know :)

It doesnt do all phones, but most. There is also an option (a script file I think), that replaces the king root data with Super root data that most people use when rooting.

Here is the link, Ill try that tonight or the next few days - http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2015/05/How-to-Remove-Replace-KingUser-KingRoot-with-SuperSU.html

I agree though that it is that easy, but it works for me with my Shield. The ads were doing me in :( :)

But like most things read before you try as there is a risk that it could go wrong.

I'm looking for a good RSS feed reader for Android that's as good as Mr Reader on the iPad. I've tried so many and just can't seem to find one that can hold a candle to Mr Reader.

Feedly - It's OK but I hate the flip scrolling. I just want normal smooth scrolling.
gReader Pro - It's OK but the Readability integration is horrible
News+ - Just a newer gReader Pro with a horrible interface
FeedMe - Fiddly UI and no way to quickly sent an article to Readability
Feedly Reader - This is about the best I've found so far. It's a bit buggy though.

Any others worth a try?

I use the national rail app as a default https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.nationalrail.google

But it tends to give you ten mins for a platform change to be safe, if you are familiar with local trains you can sometimes one-up it with crafty platform change.

any way to download all the images automatically to my computer that i take on my phone and are auto uploaded to the new photos app? and also any way to edit the videos it creates? it's put 5/6 videos together, each about 1 minute long but it's selecting random 3 second clips from it but it's getting the wrong 3 seconds. would be good if i could select which parts to use

Google Drive will automatically sync Google Photos to a desktop computer.

I've given up on finding a decent RSS reader.. All i want is one that syncs when I want it to and I can read off line whilst on the tube to work, but nope it seemingly doesn't exist...
