New essential Android apps thread

Pocket Casts. Personally love it. Automatically download for specific shows, very configurable and for a bit extra works well through a browser too which Sync across all devices.

That's the first time anyone's been able to mention a feature I would like adding to BeyondPod, I can imagine that could be quite handy at times. Not anywhere near has hand as SmartPlay for me mind you.

True Caller is a really good app for blocking SMS.

And I also gave another vote to BeyondPod, this podcast player is really great stuff... I can only recommend it! :)

Nope but will give it a go now thanks.

When looking into this I didnt like the info true caller wanted (people saying it wants to upload your phonebook etc)
Ended up with "Calls Blacklist".
Simple but does what I need and only get calls coming through if I am already on the phone. Dont know if this is a bug or a technical issue with the way it works but its working well for me otherwise

Is moonreader best app for reading ebooks ?

If this is of any use, the Google Play Books service let's you upload epub and PDFs to it, so you can upload them from your desktop and access from and device or computer.

It may not be the best app, but that feature may be useful for you.

what app can sync from pc to a sd card folder now, used to use sync-me wireless before kitkat broke the sd card permissions
whats the best now??

Folder Sync may help. I have set up a FTP server on my PC, and Folder Sync is set up to sync my photos to my PC every night whilst I am on WiFi. It supports syncing in both directions, so if I added photos to that folder on my PC and ran the sync, I will grab them from my PC and put them onto the phone's SD.

I quite like it.

There is one that I also got with a cheap and nasty Prestigio from crudlins thats called ereader prestigio, that I have also had a play with, that seems semi-ok.

I am very much still in the Aldiko camp, however, I am utterly sick to death, that it does not seem to handle page turns that well at all, on ANY of my devices.

I also have issues with book that I have removed, the shelf still shows up with a blank, and if I add them back again, they get added along with the blank!!! - I dont think its me, but I know that most of the time, its easier to simply uninstall and reinstall theapp just to get rid of the info and start again rather than try cleaning it up.

I use Wondershare Mobile Go and so it only takes a couple of seconds.
Without that app, I would have smashed up a lot more phones and tablets than I have done already! LOL

What does SmartPlay do?

I still think BeyondPod is the best podcast player. I love it's SmartPlay feature, set priorities to feeds or categories, auto updates overnight and then you just press play...

For example, mine might be -

1. Most recent 2 sports podcasts (category)

2. Most recent 'This Week in Tech' podcast

3. Most recent 2 Tech podcasts (category)

4. Most recent 2 Short podcasts (category)

5. Oldest 2 comedy podcasts (category)

Press SmartPlay and it makes your playlist from that.

As it updates overnight it leaves whatever podcast your currently listening too, but lines up the playlist after that based on your priorities.

I would imagine that is quite useful, particularly for smaller duration podcasts. I tend just to pick my show and listen to it.

I like I don't need to even look and see what's been downloaded or what's waiting to be listened too. If a show ends, I don't have to pull my phone out and browse/select the next podcast.

Based on the Chromium CAF v46 code: http://caf.notphenom.com/

This browser works great for Snapdragon based phones as CAF is Chromium optimised for Snapdragon SoCs: https://www.codeaurora.org/projects/all-active-projects/chromium-browser-snapdragon

Compared to #NoChromo and Chrome, I can see a significant difference in terms of performance, it feels a lot more snappier and smoother. There's also an adblocker as well which is a bonus. Still a few bugs however as the v46 CAF code is not completed yet. There are other builds from different developers but I ended up following this one as he kept the Chrome sync in (others removed it to make it avaliable for the Play store). A little bug with the signing in however, once you sign in, there's a persistant notification asking to allow the sign in even if you already allowed it, but a reboot fixes it.

Recent build seems to have removed the swipe to move back/forward feature but the developer stated on XDA he'll readd back in the next build.

Trying to sign into this and its telling me my account already exists on this device.

Want to sign in with my Google account so all my bookmarks from normal Chrome appear.

Am I missing something?

Thankyou, been using it, just the job
