New essential Android apps thread

bought apex, nova and several other launchers and the only one that s truely worthy of getting to my phone these days is Apex. Nova lost its way ages ago and when comparing the two recently on my n5100 there apex is by far the winner. So much customising where nova lack. Nova just feels like a rushed project.

Looking for an app that detects I've disconnected from a certain wifi network and automatically connects to my VPN.

Looking for something to let me dial into my VOIP server when I'm not connected to its home nertwork.

Cheers

You won't find an app that'll do those things on their own.

You'll need Tasker, Secure Settings plugin and rooted.

Ive had completely the opposite experience with nova. Nova for me is the launcher i compare everything else to. I've never had issues with it, never seen anything that feels rushed, even using the betas; it just works. its been the llauncher i keep going back to on all of my android devices.

What does apex pro do that nova prime lacks?

Same here, tried all the others including the new ones (KK, Solo etc) Always go back to Nova.

Never tried the apex full version.. But have the full nova.. My mate has apex but I've not really looked at it, what makes it better?

That said I'm running stock sense on m8 at the moment, and liking it.

Mirroring your screen to Chromecast is now avaliable for certain devices: http://www.androidcentral.com/how-mirror-your-android-screen-chromecast

I had to restart my Nexus 10 for the "Cast Screen" option to appear in the notification toggle area, but once connected it seemed to work fine (N10 on my 5G wireless, Chromecast on 2.4G). Quality was a bit poor for me but from the looks of it, it seems it's using a variable bitrate to ensure everything was running smoothly.

Don't have the updated Chromecast app for my M7 yet, might run better compared to my N10 due to the lower resolution.

EDIT: Grabbed the 1.7 APK from Android Police, and the quality is much better when casting from my M7. I guess the N10's QHD screen is too large to for my wireless network :p.

I prefer Nova over Apex (both paid).

Any good email clients?

I've tried K9 but its a pain to setup and I couldn't get it working, I've tried 9folders but my domain email doesn't support active sync so thats out

Hate to say it but Apples email client supported everything from the start, can't see to find a good Android app though :(

The stock Email app is on the store now, any use?

I use K9 and found it fine. Using 2 imap accounts with it :)
