New essential Android apps thread

Depends how you want to manage your email. I use Gmail for my gmail and hotmail (retrieves the mail), then use the stock email app to handle my exchange account.

Don't mind them bundle in together as long as I can reply from the account it came in on without thinking about it :)

You can set up Gmail to reply through your hotmail account, you'll need to go to your account settings on your web browser and add the account under the 'send mail as' section. Untick use as alias and you can enter the hotmail smtp details.

I haven't tried this with an exchange account though.

To be honest it might be simpler to set up each non-gmail account in the default mail app. What phone are you using? The stock email app is fairly good. If you want extra settings, you could use K9 Mail :)

I have a Nexus 5 arriving tomorrow :)

God I remember K9, but has it not been updated in years?

EDIT: I stand corrected K-9 Dog Walkers - 27 January 2014

The aosp mail app is decent enough, and yeah K9 got a long awaited update :D

I'd use the stock email app for everything else and Gmail for your main address, saves you faffing about with extra accounts through gmail.

Yes good point, roll on tomorrow

That's why multiple inboxes in GMail and labels work so well. One unified interface, multiple accounts. There's no beating GMail really for normal mail accounts. Exchange accounts you'd want the dedicated mail app for.

I suppose in that way it keeps my business communications completely seperate from personal

Having 3 separate e-mail accounts is less faff than having it all through Gmail?

I just don't have any experience in using Gmail to reply from those accounts, I've only ever used it to retrieve mail.

If it's seamless then I may give it a go :)

You click your name in the from field and select the account to send as, simple!

As I just bought this...

I've gotta say Stickmount so I can expand my Nexus 7 (1st Gen 16Gb Wi-Fi) by 32Gb (or at least 29Gb Formatted) :)

Can someone help, I am going mad. How do I replicate the below?

On my S4 I can only have a line of ugly icons. I have tried an app but it uses the default icons. I just want to have 4 icons attached to the padlock/unlocking motion but cannot figure out how to do it.

For those with Chromecast, Localcast now supports Google+ and Google Drive!

Gave it a go and pictures are fine, but videos seems to buffer quite a lot. Might be the video I'm trying though, it's ~600mb just for 3 minute long video, I guess my HO doesn't compress when recording.

EDIT: Reencoded the video to around ~100mb, still buffering every now and then. I guess the app needs more work, Allcast works fine.
