New essential Android apps thread

I have a really annoying issue with Gboard where it refuses to automatically correct i to I when using i to refer to myself in the first person. Anyone else have this issue?

I got it to work by uninstalling and reinstalling Gboard but it randomly stopped doing it again today...

Yep, I've had that issue too. In fact ever since the recent major update to Gboard I find it does some quite annoying things occasionally.

I get that too, most annoying. I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling and see if that does anything

Google Keyboard and/or WhatsApp after the latest update is awful. Its slow and often freezing the phone up. If I switch between English to Portuguese or vice versa it takes a full 10 seconds before I can do anything with the phone

Think I'll try swapping to another keyboard for the time being.

Happens with Swiftkey too. It randomly takes 2-3 seconds to appear and is laggy to type on. Dropping back to the homescreen and going back into Whatsapp temporarily fixes it until the next time.

Definitely the keyboard, it happened to me on Messenger Lite when switching to Portuguese.

Sucks. I love the Google keyboard otherwise! Bleh, might just put up with it and hope they patch it soon.

Samsung have released the 'Samsung Internet Beta' browser and after extracting the apk file it's installed on my Moto G4 Plus and works normally. It may also install directly from the Play Store but I didn't try that first. It allows you to integrate the 'Adguard Content Blocker' which will block all ads.

Facebook and Messenger app is using most of my battery, is there any alternative Facebook/Messenger app that has the same layout and notifications?

I use Metal for Facebook and Messenger Lite for chats. Both saved me significant batteries.

Last night I discovered AdGuard. Am enabling this when off of Wifi. It uses a bit of battery but it is saving me significant amounts of data (apparently) - will see how this plays out. Browsing is definitely quicker.

Anyone played True Skate? I'm currently quite obsessed with it :o Takes me back to the Tony Hawk days on PS1. Pity you have to pay for extra skateparks and all the extras are crazy expensive..
