New FTB Modded Minecraft server Beyond

As 5punk says click the "clasp" on the front of the Ender Chest with a diamond to lock it to you. You will then need to lock any others that are in your system. You will also have to shift-right-click your pouch on the chest to lock the pouch to the new, private Ender Chest :) I was getting confused last night that I could still open your locked chest - it dawned on me this morning that I hadn't de-opped myself for testing. D'oh!!

Gonna be a while to hit 10k xp levels ^_^

Hope you're finding your way around the server @Etheco!

So, I was aiming for 10,000 xp levels......and this is what happened today!!

qCjR5MU.png

That, as far as I can work out, equates to 501,171,347 xp orbs. 501 Million. Yup - over half a billion xp orbs!

Be careful if you want, for whatever reason, to emulate this - taking anything over 1k levels out of an XP Obelisk kills the server - you'd have to do it 10 levels at a time.

I've had 12 Mechanical Users from ExtraUtils2 fully speed upgraded to help with the transformation of xp shards to xp orbs! Let it rain........

FYkemtP.png

On my way to 10k levels I've amassed 3.2 Million Draconium dust, 841k bottles of dragon's breath, 105k dragon eggs and 105k dragon hearts. Not too shabby for a few weeks lol

tSatf1z.png

I've also been looking at OP RF power stuff - if you make all 16 ExtraUtils2 power generators and run them all at the same time, and you make a Rainbow Generator - coupled with 5 Draconic Evolution I/O crystals you can rock 25 million RF/Tick

Pretty!!

So - feel free to join in. Server is rock steady - we have no lag and we'd love you to hop on! All the very best - Ham

@haaammit I've had another issue with a recipe in RS the advanced solar cell has caused the same issue (server lag) as the implosion compressor, I'm also really considering ripping my RS system out and going with AE2.
I got your gmail - thanks!
Not sure what's happening with it tbh. Are you just crafting an advanced solar cell in a crafting grid or are you making a recipe so you can auto craft? I've had no issues with it so far, unless I'm say turning blocks of diamonds into diamonds stacks and stacks at a time - that causes system lag.
I've also noticed the server crashed about 30 minutes ago. I'm just restarting it and have the crash log, so I'll have a look to see if that sows any issues.

If anyone is up on crash logs and wants to also have a look I've uploaded it here https://drive.google.com/file/d/107st2fWE7IQj5ztf7qHtvguiGrRGIlXJ/view?usp=sharing

Edit: I've just been online and have crafted some advanced solar panels both via a wireless crafting grid, a normal crafting grid and I've added it as a recipe to a crafter with no issues so far, but making a stack per action does cause lag. Making a stack via a crafter causes no lag.

It's some of the recipe's to craft them via auto crafting I had the wrong recipe added for the glass type, which I think causes RS to crash the server.

Glad it's sorted - a heads up to all players to make sure the recipes are correct - I had an issue with an AutoCrafter that I got the recipe wrong in and it crashed the server, to the point I had to download the world and MCEdit out the offending machine!!

I intend to have a game of it very soon, just I don't know where to start, all the things to do and learn it's overwhelming!

Hope to catch you ig soon. You are right, there are a whole load of different mods in this pack - you can concentrate on agriculture, or magic, or machinery/automation, whichever floats your boat! The best thing to do, imho, is to start like you would a vanilla survival world. You'll then want to start some kind of storage system - Refined Storage and Applied Energistics 2 are two very capable mods, or if you want less automation you can use Storage Drawers, Crates, Barrels.....or stick to Vanilla chests! For me, I like automation, so I went down EnderIO and Refined Storage for mobfarms to start, then onto a WOOT farm. WOOT farms are awesome, if a little dull! You will also need to look into generating power, for the most part in this pack it's called RF (One mod uses EU which isn't meant to be compatible with RF but you can do it). There are loads and loads of different ways to generate RF, from coal burning generators, to a whole load of different solar generators, diesel generators fuelled with bio-fuel, Lava generators, ice generators, the list is endless. I went with EnvironTech's solar arrays - 2 x tier 4 that gave ~100k rf per tick. I saved the surpluss rf in EnderIO capacitor banks. I eventually upgraded to 6 x Chaotic Solar Panels, giving an additional 3 million rf/tick now stored in a Draconic Evolution Tier 8 Energy Core - there's about 330 Trillion rf stored in that puppy right now!

Then you'll need to look into ways of transferring rf - again there are many ways of doing this, from physical conduits to virtual networks, able to send power across dimensions. You may want to work your way to creative flight - again you have many options - Angel Ring from ExtraUtils 2 but this needs a chunk loaded GP power supply - Wings of the Bat from Actually Additions, you'll need to delve into that mod and look at empowering stuff - Draconic Evolution has flight built in to the Draconic chest plate, again you'll need to go through the mod - JetPacks are a thing from 2 mods (I think) and an early way of getting flight is a HangGlider used in conjunction with a SlimeSling from TinkersConstruct.

You can make all sorts of tools - from powered drills to specialised tools from Tinkers Construct. You can make machines that will auto mine resources and ores for you (EnvironTech miners, Quantum miner from ExtraUtils2, VerticalMiner from ActuallyAdditions, BuilderBlock from RFTools to mention a few that I have tried. There are others). You can use an RFTools Builder to copy and rebuild a structure. The list is endless.

I've always been a op type player, so the mods I use lend themselves to my gameplay - I like large quantities of materials on hand so I can build whatever I damn please lol! I would recommend maybe watching a few let's plays from players that use this pack (or use a particular mod that this pack has). It can really help with inspiration, and to help you decide if that's a mod you want to delve into. For me, Botannia seems very complex, so I've not bothered with it, as I don't think it can bring anything to my game. Horses for courses.

I'm sorry that's run on quite a bit - hopefully it's info for anyone else who is thinking of delving into modded Minecraft. The pack we have really does have something to cater for most gameplay styles. Please - any other players feel free to add to this!

Any questions, please put them up on here, or in the Discord chat if you'd rather. There is a general voice channel on discord as well.

Also to note, if you want to see items from one particular mod, then in the searchbar type @EnderIO or @Envrintech or whatever mod you want to look at. There are a few mods that have ig manuals as well.

Now, thanks to 5punk I'm going to put up some pictures of my place kindly taken by 5punk with the Sphax texturepack and Shaders! Cheers 5punk!

Some of my base is in spawn chunks, and there's quite a bit of stuff there that can cause lag, so I'd like to move spawn so those bits aren't always loaded. Below is a map of the area around spawn.

Current spawn is in blue - there are three other locations that I feel would be suitable, far enough away from my base but close enough and flat enough to allow players to choose their direction of travel away from spawn. These are marked Yellow, Red and Purple. My preferred location that I think works best is Purple, but any other comments/ideas gratefully received.

Cheers - Ham

FYI I've moved spawn to the purple location. There is a small hut there again with a few starter chests. If anyone fancies doing a better job of the hut, then feel free lol!

Since you mentioned it Haaammit, I've been thinking about chunk loading (sorry again for overdoing it). I presume that to chunk load a farm (ore miner, woot etc.) you need to chunk load the farm itself, a power source and a storage system? Does anyone know if you need to chunk load the whole thing or just the controller? So my Woot farm is on the border of 4 chunks so I've been chunk loading all 4 but I'm wondering if I only need to chunk load the one with the mob controller in? Does it matter how much is loaded in 1 chunk or is it simply the total number of chunks that are loaded that are the problem? My base is over 3 levels, so I could move stuff around so a solar panel, ore miner and storage system are all in the same chunk for example.

I know that it quite a few questions but I've not played on a server that allowed chunk loading before so it is all new to me and I'm conscious of not going OTT (again).

Don't stress :) I've tested WOOT and only the controller needs to be chunk-loaded, but also any method if item transfer will also need to be loaded, so a chest for the items to go in, or a Dimensional Transceiver etc. Also to note that whilst RFTools will allow access to a set of hard drives that are not loaded if they are connected to a controller that is, however, doing this will cause extreme server lag, so be careful.

I have not tested the EnvironTech stuff, but suspect it's the same. From a server performance perspective, one chunk with everything piles up like a block of flats is preferable to a big spread out area, as the whole chunk from top to bottom has to be virtually rendered. One chunk with lots in is better than lots of chunks with a few bits in, if that makes sense?

For the moment, and to see how we get on, I've limited chunk-loading to 8 per player. This means you may have to be selective on what you have running over-night etc. Currently we have 41 chunks player chunk-loaded, not including spawn chunks

I can't seem to get Optifine to come up, and also using 512 texture packs my game is lagging badly and the draw distance is terrible?

When you say you can't get Optifine up, how do you mean? Have you added it into the mod folder of your FTB Beyond instance? Regarding TexturePacks it may be worth trying a lower bit pack. I use a 64bit pack and the quality is ok - you can see some of my screen shots back on page 4. Modded servers can be pretty hard on machines, especially in bases where there are lots of machines/storage/general stuff. At my base, my framerate is about 35fps (There is a butt-ton of stuff here) and out in the countryside it's well over 100!

On Multi-MC I right click on FTB Beyond and click edit instance then drag and drop it into resource packs that's right isn't it?
No - optifine will need to go into the Mod folder - right click FTB Beyond then click on Instance Folder then double click .minecraft then drop optifine into the folder called mods. That should be good to go :)

What is resource packs section for ?
That folder is for texture packs, so I use a 64 bit pack by PinkyPie - no longer available to download.....or is it....! Here 5punk3ymonk3y uses Sphax (with shaders and an insane pov lol)- there are loads out there that change the look of MC - that's where the texturepacks go, in the resourcepacks folder. I also have DramaticSkies as well :)

Sidenote - the server is down for about 10 more minutes - just doing some housekeeping!

Don't use a 512 texture pack on modded Minecraft it takes an insane amount of resources to run. 64 or 128 is the sweet spot. As Ham pointed out drop optifine in to the mods folder and texture packs in to the resource folder.

@haaammit @Greboth if you hit F7 (I think it's F7 could be F8) on the keyboard a grid will load in world showing the chunk edges. It makes building machines easier within a chunk. I used to build redstone ic2 water bucket reactors in single chunks, if it stepped over a chunk it used to explode. I have a pic somewhere of a 64 chunk wide crater I caused taking out 2 other player builds on the old linktart server I'll have to dig it out, Yrth wasn't impressed at that one but I rolled back the area with WE and all was good ha ha

Oh and the biggest cause of player lag is machine sounds in game which can be turned off player side by editing mod configs. Tree farms that harvest leaves were the worst I'm looking at you MFR harvester....

In this pack F7 will display a grid that shows where mobs can spawn - a yellow x in the grid means it's dark enough for mobs. Not sure what F8 does! I've been using F3 and G at the same time to get the chunk grid up! Love to see a pic of the devastation you caused 5punk lol!

@willhub I'm confident there is no lag on the server - Ticks Per Second is 20tps across all 6 dimensions currently loaded, with no skipped ticks. The only way this changes is with new terrain gen, and even that is pretty easy on the server tbh.

@all There is an issue with my base. I unchunk-loaded the whole thing, but have caused an issue whereby when my base unloads it causes insane server lag. As a short term fix (because some of my base loads up within the 10 chunk render distance for players when they go to spawn (my base is outside the 6 chunk spawn chunk radius)) I've chunk-loaded the whole thing. I'll do some testing to narrow down which one of the 36 chunks has the issue. My betting is that it is a Refined Storage issue, but time will tell!

There are no machines on at my place, but there are:
2 EnvronTech tier 4 solar panels
6 Chaotic solar panels from Solar Flux Reborn
feeding into
1 Tier 8 Draconic Evolution Energy Core and an EnderIO cap bank/buffer of about 5 billion rf
There are also all 16 Extra Util generators and a Rainbow gen, but these are not on.
I also have two independent RS storage systems, on for RFTools stuff and one for the rest of my gear. The RFTools one has 1x64k storage drive. My main system has 72x64k drives over 9 hard disk drives at about 25% capacity? I also have 10 Quantum Storage Units filled with ~200k items in each one.
There are also 5 DragonEgg Mills from ExtraUtils2 "running" plus a handful of ExtraUtils2 Water mills.
A whole load of wiring/cunduits from EnderIO and a load of energy pylons from Draconic Evolution. There are a load of RS crafters connected to Solderers, Sag Mills and Alloy Smelters, but these are all powered down.
There are a few RFTools bits, again these are not being used, but do have power going to them. Including a Matter Receiver*

As an aside, I have an EnderBag connected to an EnderChest which is connected to an RS Importer. I've noticed even if my base is unloaded, items put into the EnderBag, and by definition the EnderChest, RS will still pull the item into main storage, even though it shouldn't be loaded up, as it is in an unloaded chunk - hence why I believe RS is the culprit, but testing will hopefully find out!

Holy wall of text Batman! Laters - Ham o./

Edit: Thinking about all that, I *think* the RFTools MatterReceiver *may* chunkload the chunk it is in - more research required!

Edit 2:Testing shows it's not the RFTools machines lol

That is a decent sized crater, to be sure! IC2 reactors in this pack can also explode iirc and I know for certain a Draconic Evolution Reactor can deffo explode - they take out pretty much everything in a 200 block radius around the explosion - just google Draconic Evolution Reactor Explosions to see what I mean! If anyone is gonna build one, please make sure it's well away from any other builds lol!

I'm going to be doing some testing today to locate the issue in my base. I might need to restart a few times, but if anyone wants to hop on I'll stop, and continue later.

Have a goodie! Ham

OK, so that's now sorted! Took a little while to find the issue, but I've found and fixed it. You may remember I was wanting to achieve 10,000 xp levels? I had these stored in an EnderIO Experience Obelisk, connected via EnderIO Presserized Fluid Conduits to both a Soul Binder and a couple of other EnderIO XP vacuums down in my older spawning rooms. It was trying, I think, to distribute 10,000 xp throughout the pipes, but of course when some of the pipework that was in chunks that unloaded before the the other chunks with pipework in I guess there was a load of fluid "stuck" for want of a better word. Anyhoo, I've taken out the Experienced Obelisk and put it to one side with no pipes connected to it, and have replaced it with one that has a safer 17 levels in it lol! Longer term I will configure the pipes better!

Extensive testing has shown that this has cured the lag/drop in tps that occurred when those chunks unloaded.

So yeah, fixed. GG - Ham

Ok - so some of IC2 endgame stuff is broken in this pack - I'll look into that over the next couple of days.

I've added this to the op, but IC2 insists on using EU, meaning you have to go down this tech tree with no other mod benefits, where all the other mods are happy to accept RF. Little known fact is that FluxNetworks is about the only mod that will happily send/convert/not discriminate between RF AND EU and they are cheap enough to make. Make a network, add a plug (the red one) to your IC2 power input and a Point (green one) to your stored RF et voila! You're welcome!

There are chisel bit bags that can help.

Are there invisible bits on the floor? They should de-spawn after 5 minutes. Have you tried re-chiselling the invisible block? That may make it cycle back to a mineable one. Failing that, give me the cords and I'll see if I can MCEdit the block out, then upload that chunk back into the world file :)

What items are broken?

crazy_monty was trying to make an Iridium Drill with no success - when we looked there was no recipe for Iridium-Reinforced Plates, but this is *now* showing in JEI that an Implosion Compressor is needed to make them (I *think* that was the issue). Obvs the server has restarted a few times since, so that may have rectified the issue. I'm sure there was something else broken.... @coltus Can you remember the issue?

Otherwise - everyone happy with the server/stability/amount of chunks to load etc? The amount of homes (1) suit you all - the sleep percentage (50%) - any stuff that you would like to see changed - I'm open to ideas!

Hope you all had a pleasant weekend - catch you soon - Ham

Lol that was the item I was making when I first killed the server to make iridium plates, it does work :) also sent you a gmail

Is it the IC2 jetpack for the gravisuit? If so there are other recipes as a way around the missing one

Lol - I can't really remember now tbh - hopefully monty will chime in at some point! Received and replied to your gmail!

Thanks @5punk3monk3y for letting e know of the server

@haaammit could you please whitelist me :D

Not a bleeding chance pal. Never, ever, ever, ever...........oh, ok then! Long time no talk matey :)

@petridish - just a head's up - one of your FluxNetworks is not set to private (From Storage), so anyone can connect a FluxPoint to that network (thanks for the free RF btw :D:D:D jks jks :))

Anyone up on creating RFTools Dimensions? Got a player who's looking into going down that rabbit hole, but we're having a little problem with making extra, new dimensions. Any help/pointers? Ta

Mmmmm free power!!!!!

Odd issue - sometimes the random lag we had a while back starts again. Renaming the world fixes it. Most odd.

Anyhoo - I've noticed the server gets micro-lag/stutter when there's 4+ logged, so I've added an extra half gig of ram - that should clear that up nicely.

Again - you want to join in? No probs, hook me up for a white-list :)

Edit: FTBU chunk-loading thingy is broke. It will only load a maximum of 25 chunks, so if say 6 players load their 8 chunks, only 25 of the 48 chunks will properly load. Should I look into adding a chunkloader that works - either a mod (chickenchunks mebbe) or allowing a chunk-loading block in the recipe? Don't want to overload the server, but I am conscious that loading chunks really helps :)
