New Gaming Rig Advice..

You would definitely be able to do you own build now - especially after tomorrow :)

And if you gave me the heads up, on this thread, I would happily guide you through it step by step - if you do end up buying a new build.

What's on the HDD - steam?

We would flash the BIOS first - so reformat that pen drive again.

Then set the BIOS up - to ACHI (not a joke) and make sure the BIOS was optimised for your use and disable anything you weren't planning on using (probably nothing) and set the XMP for your memory or set it manually.

We would save a profile within the UEFI.

We would then prioritise the boot order to wherever you had your Windows 10 installation saved on to and then save and exit. Attach the SSD to SATA 0 (or the fastest connection) - and let it boot from the windows installation. Then format and install.

I put my most used games on the SSD and everything else on the HDD.

Right, got you! So the stuff on there now would remain on there or get wiped from the format?

Also the s340 case I have picked isn't set in stone, I'm open to recommendations. Just seen that one had good reviews.

Personally, I would back up photos and files and reformat - eliminate any chance of stutter if you're planning on using it as a second steam drive.

Sounds good to me. Anyway, I'll leave you alone now, sure you're wondering if there is an end to my countless questions! I'll report back tomorrow on if I've managed to get my motherboard out.

No worries bud - I have two screens - work and distractions to make work more tolerable...

Catch you tomorrow - and best of luck!

Can't seem to get a single screw out the motherboard, it just spins round and round once I turn it a few times asif it's turning with the standoff..
The screws are magnetic - do you have a magnitised screwdriver to hand as it might pull out (or tweezers)?

Or, do you think the riser is spinning and the screw is fixed in?

It's out! Finally..

It's brought the standoffs out with it on a few holes, as predicted the screws are stuck together with the standoffs.

You need to try and get the risers off - may be tricky on your own.

You need to grip the risers with some pliers and you should then be able to unscrew, screws.

(They should have been securely fitted to case before MB was fitted.)

Just having some toast to get my self prepared for what's to come bare with me.

Can we do the out the box boot like this and worry about the risers later? Left the finicky cables in that came with the case, is that ok?
