You need to see what your cpu clock speed is when your gaming, try cpu z.
OK installed cpu-z - what would you like to know?
Click on the tab called bench and start test, then open taskmanager click the cpu tab,it should tell you what speed your cpu is running at.
The cpu tab should show you cpu speed, and should be 3700 if you turned off speedstep.
OK, it says 3700. I'm not sure where to go from here either - no pc gaming mates I'm afraid, so maybe back to crappy 30fps consolesThanks for all your help anyway!

That's next to utilisation correct?
Have you tried playing any games since turning off speedstep ?
Yep, just tried Far Cry 3 at 720p medium settings - same crappy 15-20fps
I think I'm going to take the gpu out and try the 3dmark test again, hopefully it will run minecraft ok again!
OK, see if anyone can make any sense out of this! I've taken the gpu out, it runs minecraft buttery smooth again (my boy is relieved!). I also did the 3dmark test again, check out the cpu score?!!
