New Graphics Card Perhaps?

Afraid not, turns out HP lock down their BIOS to accept nothing but their own GPU's. New motherboard, case and cooler are in order!

3 out of 4 aint bad...

Won't say I told you so :D

Wouldn't of solved the problem though as the motherboard is a POS.

'Normally' it wouldn't be a problem. First time I've actually seen a GPU lock by a manufacturer. Crazy.

damn, yeah that's crazy, what led you to believe it was a bios lock? or was that just the only explanation that makes sense? is it possible to find out who makes the motherboard and reflash it to a different bios, as hp dont actually make their own boards, is that even possible!?

A few posts around the internet and it's behaviour pretty much lead us to believe it. Looking around there isn't a BIOS available, the manufacturer seems to have made a 'one off' for HP - Likely locking down tons of features.

At least now he'll get the chance for a small overclock and future upgradability.

man that is one nasty looking rig (no offense) lol

get rid and start a fresh imo.

Don't worry, none taken. Fortunately I have enough that I don't have to spend a fortune building a brand new system, some components will transfer. Couldn't merit the cost at this moment. But get to try my hand at building into a new case.

Just want to extend my gratitude to those that have helped. Wouldn't have been anywhere near where I eventually am. Thanks!

I kid of course, no one could have imagined that the mobo would be so frigid!

Enjoy the build OP, it's always fun!

Thanks buddy, although I'm taking a few parts from my old system I'm excited to try my hand at fitting everything together into a new case and get the new parts up and running.
My first build, nervous excitement I'd call it, but fingers crossed eh.

Sorry to bump my old thread just thought I'd update you fella's. New system is up and running with a fresh install of windows. Everything's smooth and quick, well pleased with what I've ended up with. Yet to try gaming but just thought I'd extend a thank you to the folks that have helped.

Hi, Really sorry for bumping this old thread, but I have this exact computer and need to upgrade the GPU!

So, is there ANY new cards that will work in it? Or what is the most powerful GPU it will accept?

Or can that case accept a different motherboard?

Cheers

Wait for the new AMD cards to release next month. You get more choice and possibly cheaper cards. Otherwise, what's the upgrade budget?

From the research I did last year there was no compatible cards available (That are worthwhile using anyway!).

You are better off saving for a new build.

Well, in the meantime is there a better card I can use than the 545 that's in there? Basically any improvement would be worthwhile lol
What about a GTX 660??
