New graphics card

it has the aftermarket cooler and thus can be OCd higher whilst remaining much cooler.... about 10 degrees cooler

You find a lot of the GPU's **** out before temps come into it.
Reference 5870's did 1GHZ quite easy, few months down the line, new revisions, etc etc, getting that 1GHZ wasn't quite so easy.

Obviously the aftermarket cooler helps, but I wouldn't make it the deciding factor of two GPU's, maybe OP will, who knows.

Smart advice is far from trolling.

Agh yes, the pron pictures on the forum on an alt account due to your ban was just an example of your smart advice I take it?

At stock the performance is effectively the same, overclocked they're effectively the same also, with the 670 claiming some and the 7950 claiming others.

They'll both max out games at 1080p without breaking a sweat.
My personal choice would be the 7950 because of the better cooler and lack of thermal throttling.

At stock the 670 is a good bit ahead of the 7950 (at least a reference 800mhz one). Over clocked is a different story though as the 7950 has a lot more headroom than the 670.

The stock performance is not the same, not even close.
The post you made on the other forum with the graphs even show that.

670's at 'stock' are overclocked most of the time by more than 1100Mhz. When both 7970 and 670/680 are overclocked there isn't much in it overall and just depends on the game, with the 680 being slightly better overall and the 7970 not far behind.

The 7970 for £330 with a DC2 cooler is very good value.

I haven't posted and graphs to show anything.....your confused.

I'm on about Dave, that'd make you the confused one ;)
The 7970 DCII current batch lacks voltage control, because they've been revised, what with the tremendous amount of problems the DCII's had on the 79XX series.
Although the DCII really makes a card look proper high end, I love the look of my 7970, shame I find its crippled OC'ing disappointing.
Although it's the 7950 DCII at 330, not the 7970, again I go back to you being the confused one, unless you're on about elsewhere.

Not just the DC2 but the VTX and Gigabyte Windforce also.

The 7970's come with 3 free games 2 of which are new, you can easily sell them for £25 within a heartbeat which brings the price down to around £330 which is indeed a very good price for non reference 7970's

The 670 is easily the pick of this gen so far. Can be had for close to £300, cheaper and faster than the 7970, uses less power and runs cooler. It's a no brainer tbh. Still im patiently waiting for GK110 before I move from these 480's..

Im waiting for a 670 that doesn't have the power locked down because as it is its held back. if not that then I will also wait till the big boy.

Im certainly not getting a reference one with the pathetic tiny £2 cooler it has on it, once overclocked they are noisy

Already had a 7970, was a good card but sold it before the price drop, and invested in 3D vision.

7970 the price its at at with the games is good value.

All very valid as long as you don't want to over clock. Here at the overclockers forum though, there are quite a few of us who do and those stock graphs aren't particularly valid to.

Yeh... 670/80 at stock are overclocked to often more than 1100Mhz with boost. Comparing that to a 7970 with a low clock of 925Mhz of course they will be faster.

Most people who spend £300+ on a high performance GPU overclock it.

Im not comparing clock speeds.

Just stating that the comparing an over clocked 670 with a stock 7970 then of course the 670 will be faster.

Im not arguing whether the 670/80 is better thanthe 7970. IMO the 670/80 overall are for sure better performance wise and efficiency wise. (which is why Im getting one, Ive been there and had a 7970,sold it so I didnt lose money and it no longer has the featuresI need which is 3D Vision)

What I am saying is everyone is basing their opinions of them off comparisons where the 670 is over clocked and the 7970 isn't. And that the 7970 is still a good choice at the price it is specially if you are looking to go high resolution
