I disagree.

That's your opinion. The GT-R is a boy racers car, some people are happy driving in luxury in the form of an M3, a CLK etc. The GT-R isn't even that much of a head turner, it just looks like another modified chav-mobile.

I'm not talking about value for money, I've already said it is an impressive car in terms of bang for the buck. My point is some people would rather drive around in something that governs more respect.
 
We talking about respect from the general public here?... as you know for a fact that anyone in the know will think differently.. Not many "Chav's" can afford a £60k car! Once again imo you are looking way too much at the badge. What is it you think about the 350z? :)

Not many chavs can afford an impreza STI or an EVO x, they still look like chav cars.

Maybe i just think too much about the actual car and what it offers me and not what people think of it... Im willing to bet there are a fair few people like me out there.

I personally think part of owning a car is thinking how awesome it looks moments before you jump inside.

From the front, the GT-R doesn't look that bad, but this...

ain't pretty, and had they actually given the car a decent image it would have been the frikin zeus of cars.

IIRC, he paid far more for a car that looks worse and is, if I'm not mistaken, quite commonly regarded as one of the most unattractive cars Ferrari has built in decades by many people, myself included.
Thankfully he more than redeemed himself with his latest purchase which is an absolutely gorgeous car IMO.

"Boy racers" don't have £60k to spend on a car. If you think that a manufacturer will sell a car for this price and aim it at the boy racer market then you are misguided.

I agree. I don't think a 60k GT-R looks like a "modified chav mobile" at all. I think it looks fast and aggressive, which i love.

Tommy B, your arguments are very weak. First of all, you tried to say that it no way would it beat a GT2, then when you lost that one you went to "but it's just a Nissan", then when you lost that one you tried to slate its fuel economy (low point of your argument), then you tried to say it's a chav car (even though few chavs on this earth could afford one).


Where are you going next? It's too loud?

Why don't you just admit the only reason you don't like it it because you don't like how it looks, instead of trying to slate its performance. At least then you can win your argument because it's looks are subjective.

Almost anyone could get finance on a £30k car (even though repaying it might just cripple them).
The number of people who could get finance on a £60k car is significantly less, hence the reason most cars you see on the UK's roads cost less than £60k.
 
Think we are chalk and cheese lol. As i hate the front but love the back. The front looks neither this nor that.. it looks like a dressed up 350z.. But the back shows you what it really is. You seen one IRL? as that tends to change my opinion on things and im told they have a ton of road presence when you see it for real.

It's hard not respect something that will blow most cars on the road into the weeds. Even in a Veyron, being pragmatic, on the road, you'd have to concede some respect to the capabilities of the GTR. I'm sorry Tommy mate but you're point is becoming ever diluted to the point of nonsense. I can understand your opinions on the car but you're stating objective measures which just aren't true.

As for chavmobile, I understand that to be "chavvy by association" which inherently includes the likes of E36 M3 and dare I say it, the bottom end of the E39 M5 market. Chavvy? Yep!

I can't agree with Tommy on his point about image as I thinks it's a somewhat weak argument. The image associated with the Skyline today and the M3 from E46 back is based on who drives them today, not who bought them when they were new. Its the same with the E39 M5 because as the price comes down and they become available to new audiances their image is associated with the current demographic, or should I say the odd one or two 'chavs' who may choose to own them, not the majority of people who are probably just enthusiasts now able to afford a car they have always wanted.

Having said this, if you move image to one side they are still fantastic cars and just because a few jug heads and inbreads may choose to drive them it does not remove this fact and really should not be the basis for buying or not buying such a car. There are plenty of badge snobs out there, many of them in the Porsche forums but that is their loss. The 'Datsun' seems a fantastic car and my issue with it is I hate hype and I question that by downplaying the BHP it works to emphasis the percieved benefits of its technology when in fact it may be more down to the fact it has a massive chunk of BHP and some small tweaks to its suspension and computers.

THIS is why I am not being caught up in the hype yet as we need to see some detail and in depth side by side tests, which is not what our friends in Japan are well known for with their 'track attack' videos. A GT3 should be much closer to a SL than it was in that video but put it in the hands of someone who is not use to it and it will be slower than someone who knows them. As one GT2 owner I know of found out, don't let a professional race drive take your 911 around the ring because he seem a good driver and knows the place as you may end up with £65K repair bill when he shows he knows little about the foibles of a bum ended car. :eek:
 
I'd be a fool not to have massive respect for what this car manages to pull off, even more so for the price. However, I know it wouldn't be my kind of car.

Before anyone has a go, no I'm not in a position to buy one, nor have I driven anything similar. However from what I read, the videos I see, and the sentiments expressed by housemaster in this thread I know it wouldn't be what I'd want if I were lucky enough to have the choice.

I like to do all the work myself, rather than being able to set all the computers to win mode and just mash the pedal to the floor (exaggeration, but I'm sure you get my point). For example, I've got a old suzuki rg 125 bike. For a bike, it's slow as hell in its current trim, and tops out at about 80mph. But it takes a lot of effort and concentration to squeeze anything out of it, and I find that really satifying, in the same way I know I'd find something like an elise or a caterfield car much more fun. Horses for courses and all that . . .
 
Supposedly the GT-R's are not going to be sold at Nissan dealers over here but will be sold at Infiniti dealers instead. Strange because the dealer I was in had a Nizmo 350z sitting in the show room for sale!
 
First i heard of that one. Its got a Nissan badge on it. Can't see why they wouldnt offer if from any of their show rooms as the flag ship model.

As far as I know there arent any Infiniti dealers over here, its a badge for the US market
