New headset : Pimax Crystal

I think it sounds good..."the best VR display in the world...", can't argue with that really, he's had more experience of vr headsets than most. It's heavy but the feedback is that it's balanced, the battery being in the back must help. I'm undecided about buying it, it's a lot of money. Its direct rival the Aero is more expensive and offers less. But Varjo are a good company to deal with ime, whereas Pimax aren't always up to the standards we expect in the West.

Sound great and terrible all at once.
i love the big ticket features of the headset but i cant help but feel like i would be going back in time to Rift DK2 era of faffy software and slightly janky hardware .

just look at how big and bulky the headset is compared to say the quest pro or the PSVR2.

and he even mentioned on the video the pimax software needs fiddling with for a lot of games.

and on top of that half the features are not finished yet and i just dont really trust pimax to get it all done........ by the time it is out and finished who knows what the other players will be offering.

Also i am probably wrong but i am not entirely convinced they may not do a yawVR and ultimately fail.

MRTV saying something is amazing when he has an affiliate link to the purchase of said item? Never!

To be fair Projects Cars 2 looks amazing in most high end headsets with it all turned up. AMS2 takes it overall, but nothing beats the initial runout on the Azure coast with a fleet of reflective painted supercars. At 90 frames it's one of the most surreal sights in a headset.

Universally across everybody that's used the crystal attests to it having the best display they've used. There's nothing unbelievable here when being used with PC2, and no need for any kind of churlish juvenile response.

MRTV has done himself no favours, and deserves his reputation.

The crystal might be awesome, but I ain't taking his word for it.

To be fair he was also pretty harsh on it... when the pimax guy said "hows the audio" (referring to those little compact speaker things, not the DMAS) and he replied "audio could be better" leading the Pimax guy to say "sorry for asking" - I pictured him crying himself to sleep that night lol.

He also straight up said it was not at all ready as the software had a load of bugs and stability issues.

It honestly seemed like very balanced coverage to me if you watched the whole thing. He was pretty savage about the bits he didn't like.

His driving also always makes me laugh.

By Jove!! You are correct, what a beastly cur he is to speak such poppycock!!!

 Seriously, Churlish and juvenile? What are you, the fun police?

And just so you know, Unseul wasn't saying anything bad about the headset. His post was directed at MRTV and his tendency to exaggerate about how good headsets are, especially ones he has affiliate links to. Unseul's comment was tongue in cheek, you know humour?

So you can relax, the Pimax crystal defence force can stand down.

it does appear to be materialising, you also have to remind yourself what isn't being said
- foveated rendering not switched on? cos its not working yet, probably incl. the eye tracking
- wireless not there
- DMAS audio being an extra, and the DMAS looking like its been taken from an 8KX with its navy colour scheme
- wide FoV faceplate and lenses... is this an extra too?
- have they achieved the stated 120degree hFoV with the new lenses/faceplate?
- lighthouse tracking faceplate, where is it, how much?
- what are you going to run wirelessly PCVR or something from the Pimax store
- how long until the 12k qled arrives? will a 4090 be able to drive it?
- when can you buy a Crystal from a reputable store with a reliable returns policy?
- are you going to get 6hrs out of a tethered battery in 2yrs time?
- what graphics setting did they use on MSFS?

some good news as well though, the raw 4090 performance, good binocular overlap, DMAS being an option it does appear to be maturing

some answers starting to come through now:

basically we will know more in June

2K or otherwise, the leap it takes on the visuals alone, makes it worth it to me.

I've seen nothing to detract me from wanting one, and taking the next step up from the ageing displays of the last 2 or 3 years.
