New Intel Processors Announced

Easy, you were probably the worst offender for "persuading" people to move to quads. Anybody suggested an E6750/6850 and you jumped down their throats telling them how stupid they were. All these people were saying that they mainly game and yet they were still labelled "stupid" for considering anything else.

Thats because for 30 quid more over a 6750 you get two extra cores.

Regardless of wether you use them right at this moment in time.

The PC will not run any slower and your ready for future games.

My arguement was set in concrete and I'm not moving now.

Anyone who pays 130 quid for a dual core over a quad has more money than sense.Regardless of wether they utilise the technology or not.

Its thats simple :p

I don't mind paying the leccy bills (well i do really but that's another arguement) but i am paying for something that is sitting there with most of it doing nothing. Incedentally, i went from a E4300 at 3.4ghz to this quad. Really did'nt like putting so much voltage through it and thought the extra cache would make a difference. As for the watercooling, that is still the same setup from my 754 days. Nothing at all added. One GPU block taken out as i was running sli on the Epox 754 sli board with a pair of 7800GT's then. If more developers got it into their heads that most people have multi cores now and encoded their games and software accordingly then i would'nt be bemoaning the quad. As it stands at the moment, we are no further on now than when dual cores first came out.

You're well set going forward though. It's hard to think there will be much your CPU can't handle, and any games slowdown will be due to the graphics cards.

I'm not upset about my quad doing 3.8ghz (not sure if you were directing this at me)

And I can utilise all 4 cores.

No mate, at pastymuncher. You seem to be happy with your quad :)

Yep. I certainly will. The move to a quad for me was a total waste of time. All i succeded in doing was increasing my power consumption at the wall from 266w load to 422w load and having more heat to get rid of. Nothing runs faster apart from benchies and none of my games use the extra cores. I should have ignored everybody when they said anybody would be stupid who buys anything but a quad. You all know who you are, and there was a lot of you too. Anybody who posted a question about the E6750/6850 was immediately set upon like a pack of ravenous wolves. When they are out i shall be getting a E8400 and clocking that to death.

Ah ! Yes ! someone who speaks his mind !

I've been thinking the same thing, Lots of Bull***t Hype on the Quad bandwagon and there's lots of it, I feel guilty of this act aswell. Got my Quad 5 months ago - Ripping a DVD once in a Blue Moon, see no difference in Games, browsing or playing Movies & all the usual stuff, compared with a C2D. 15 mins. off encoding a dvd, I should have bought a better C2D, I can live with another 15mins.

Games utilising quad are still a handfull & will be still maybe for another year or so, Unless your encoding all the time or image rendering I see there's not much point going Quad. Regardless of What Anyone Says .....

Oh Hell - Im thinking about giving my Q6600 to my nephew & having his new 6850 "b" stepping, as one of his courses is in Graphic design.

Actually, games using Quads will only increase as time goes by. I play a lot of UT3 online, and it loads 4 cores quite easily. I would not mind a quad for that. Having said that, the Wolfdales still look sweet, especially the mid range one clocked at 3 GHz.

Was it not you that used those very same complaints about the X1900 series over the 7900/7950s?

GFX cards are not CPU's.

When Two GFX cards peform on par with each other then looking at and choosing the one that uses less power is the next step.

Not when it comes to running a quad core.

a: It's a totally different CPU
b: It's faster in multi threaded apps.
c: Has twice the cores.

Of course this technology is going to use more power.

Moaning about it when the facts clearly present themselves is my point.

Dont like to sound dumb, but will these Chips run in my Asus 680i motherboard or will i have to upgrade to a 780 or intel equivalent. :)

Asus will provide a bios update for the Striker to support 45nm for the wolfdale (dual) core but the board will not support the (Quad) Yorkfield core. 780i/90i will support the 45nm Yorkies/ Wolfdale
