New Mac Products 7th August

Hmm, if I was in the market for a new computer then these iMacs are really nice. As it stands though, they don't inspire me to replace my current iMac (see sig). :( Never mind.

Nice to see they have updated the Minis though. Brilliant. :D

Bah no Mac Pro updates!

Apple your making it really really really making it hard for me to buy a Mac Pro. :(
What updates are you after? They've pretty much put the best Intel have to offer in there. You're after something that Apple can't provide you with.

Ordered a 2.4 20inch version with applecare and 2GB ram for £972.90 (educational discount). Been waiting for a few months to buy one, graphics card is a bit of a bummer but I prefer console gaming tbh.

I wasn't too sure about the design at first but now I quite like it, I think the black should help contrast the colours and it looks quite nice on the back. I've heard mixed reviews about the glossy screen, hope I like it :p
Nice! Glossy is good when done right. Nerd alert - I wonder what panel type it is. An S-IPS panel like the one in the NEC LCD20WGX2 would be amazing :)

How about 2GB RAM as standard? How about 500GB HDD as standard? How about something other than a crappy 7300GT as standard? The Mac Pro is practically outclassed by the iMac in all aspects, the only thing going being the processors.

For an extra £100 I can get a 20" iMAC instead of a base model MacBook, now I dunno whiich one to go for!!!

Is the memory user-upgradeable for the new iMACs and when Leopard comes out would that be installed on the iMACs(presuming that I be getting it in October)?

Yes and Yes to both questions.

But you can already buy those things by choosing them when you buy the Mac Pro. There's no point in Apple making new SKUs for stuff that's been available for ages already.

Also, they love to milk the professional market since they have them locked in. When they've had you for all you're worth and a bit more, then you'll get your Mac Pro price drops.

Edit: Why do people love glossy screens so much? The biggest benefit to me of moving from CRT to LCD was the whole "my screen isn't a mirror as well" aspect of it. Polishing the front of every panel to a high gloss seems like a step backwards.

It's hard to tell, benchmarks are understandably non-existent seeing as you're running a pirated, hacked version of an operating system against the terms of the license ;)

What do you use the machine for? Core 2 Duo's wipe the floor with pretty much anything AMD have, but if your current machine is running on RAIDed SCSI drives then obviously you're not going to notice a night-and-day difference by buying an iMac.

How much of an improvement will a
2.8 iMac Intel Core Duo Extreme with 2Gig of RAM stand up agaisnt my AMD X2 4400+ with 2 Gig of RAM

I am very very tempted by this iMac as I was saving for the MacPro but this really offers a """" load for £1500

Are you running OS X natively on a normal pc? Hows that possible without drivers?

I've seen virtual installs though.

It is very easy to do that now, there are allot of kexts (drivers) floating round the net.

2.8 c2d should be much faster than an athlon x2, couldn’t give a ballpark estimate unless I knew what for.

There is still plenty of the older keyboard on the apple UK site. In any event I have a lovely one I could pass on to you when my new one appears!

John Lewis are really cheap for picking up the older one.

Where on the site?

And don't have a John Lewis in Hull :p

The keyboards were still there when I first looked, but then the site borked... and now they cannot be found! There is always a shed load on the bay..

Mac Pro's have been stealth upgraged with a hardware RAID option.

The Airport Extreme now has gigabit ethernet.
