New Mac Products 7th August

Yeah, latest version seems to be 10.4.10. There are A LOT of problems with it though, and very tricky to install. Thats why I'm going legally now and get an iMac :)

All the hardware I use is supported, you just have to use popular/same parts used in real macs. The only problem I have is i had to tweak rosetta to get apps such as office 2004 + adobe cs3 working and the boot.plist myself to fix a few things, apart from that runs faster than most macs :D

Still, can't wait for my mini :D

I wouldn't mind a fondle though.

Surely there's an Apple store nearby?

Think you would have a much better and stress-free experience with a bit of a mess around on a Mac, in an Apple store. :)

I already own a Mac powerbook G4 but I wouldn't mind seeing it on my main rig.

Ah right.

Considered going down the route of running it on my main rig as well but from what I had read, it was a lot of bother. And I'm lazy. :D

If I wasn't so far off buying an iMac I would wait but fact Is that could be months away and I like the OS X system. I miss using it so much but Professional Photography and design demands me to require demanding performance so I am stuck with Vista.

I don't post around here much any more, but have the admins slackened off on the moderation of illegal software discussion? All this banter about OSX86...

You expect 2 quads at 3ghz, ~3gb ram, hd2900 or quadro fx5600 (8800gtx) in a mac for around £2k?

hmmmm...... dream on? :(

X1900XT + 2Gb + 4x3ghz = £2k with Edu discount IIRC and no VAT.

I could infact get a X1900XTX mac Pro with 4gb with 4x3ghz for £1500 if I bought everything OEM and the base mac pro and flashed my XTX to the new card and sold the old stuff!

How do you get education discount AND no vat?

And about OSX86, I don't really want to post anymore as it is illegal. If you search it through google theres an 'insane' forum which pretty much tells you what to do for pretty much every hardware situation.

If im spending £2k on a computer, I want the best!
Why do you feel Apple need to give you a load more for your money? The Xeons are expensive chips - I just specced up a Dell Precision with the same specs as the 'standard' Mac Pro (Dual 2.66 Xeon, 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD) and it came to almost £2400.

You really aren't being hard done by here.

Errr, look at the Conroes, they work in the Mac Pro, they are £240 IIRC from OcUK....

Im comparing Mac Pro Vs. Something I can build myself, and at the moment I can build something better for less :/

Edit: Oh look 3ghz dual core for £180 each!

So you want Apple to build you a Mac Pro with Conroes in and sell it to you for cheap? How would that ever have been one of the Mac Pro "upgrades"? You start off by saying you're after price drops / spec bumps, then go on to say that you won't buy a Mac Pro because you could build a Conroe machine with the same CPU clock for less money. If that's your reason for not buying a Mac Pro then you're never going to own one, because they're never going to have Core 2 CPUs in.

Correct me if i'm wrong but the mac pro uses lga 771 W/S cpu's. ocuk only stock single cpu desktop lga 775 cpus?

Then there is the massive premium of fb-dimm....

Slightly off the above discussion...

The Apple dealer in Hull had the old keyboard on their site this morning, but it's now been replaced tonight. Here's hoping they've still got one in the store. I'd rather buy from there than the bay :)
