NEW MSI B550 UNIFY better than X570 UNIFY??

I must say, my coil whine is attributed is atrocious and unacceptable on my Unify-x. It even makes noises when moving the mouse.

Strangely, it’s at its quietest when benchmarking. Leaving it to itself is just a bit grim and very distracting.

I did break a screw as mentioned earlier but another person has described exactly the same thing without that ‘error’ / design flaw.

Disappointing but hohum.

I did the screw tightening thing but didn't push it at all, only the slack. Didn't notice any difference. Im going to try with a game today to test.

What will you do? Wonder if it's the psu interaction? Try another board?

Cheers mate i knew sombody had said they had tried both boards so im not loosing it completly lol just slightly :D

My wife thinks I'm loosing it with my aio cooler indecision... I put the corsair back in and all back in the case tried it with the case sides on. Installing a game here going to see if playing it causes VRM noise...

Going to have to wait till later again for testing for noise.

How's your system going?
My gpu upgrade was going yo be a 3070 or 3060ti but was hearing people talk about the 6800 opinions on amd?

Funny I was leaning toward the msi gaming also to match my mb. I had a sapphire 7950 I think orcwas it 6950, was a good card. Ya just wasn't sure with drivers etc...

Amd drivers can be hit and miss but nvidia isnt always perfect but nothing really ever is take motherboards for instance you get coil whine with the msi unify and ethernet problems dropouts gigabyte cold boot issue on some boards i believe asus has problems aswell even on z490 people are having problems with intel 2.5 gig lan not everyone sufferes these problems of course but they're out there

You wouldn't believe what shannagins I have done. I think I've installed/reinstalled each aio about 3x in my system. Was almost going to go with the corsair but used it much of the day yesterday and I just can't get used to that pump whine. I still got some light static from the mb vrms but I tested and its hard to hear when the case is closed, but the pump noise is always there. I can live with the phanteks aio noise, it's very mild, and so mild I can hear the VRM noise under it.

I just called to rma the corsair aio thou and they picking it up tomorrow so decision is finally made.

I think after this I can finally get on with the rest of my system.

Point of my new system is to enjoy it not mess with the parts forever

Ie 2 Nvme drives, 64gigs of mem - will be using a 30gig ram drive thats fun to use, a new vid card once I can get in on one. And have my eye on some nice argb fans for my system a set (but will still check options.) oh and a new corsair 5000x case that isn't falling apart like my old one.

What do you use your pc for 64 gig ram ?
I bet your wife thinks thank god

Haha ya, I'm 'supposed' to clean the living room up today.

I wanted the 64gigs for a nice size ram drive (30 gigs before had 12) - I sort of look at it as a really fast ssd that doesn't wear down and my first go to drive whenever I dled anything - then I throw the dled file into 1 of my other drives or just delete.

Price of the Unify just took a nosedive... £199.

Cynical in me thinks they know about the coil whine and they are trying to offload boards with whine and if you complain just say "well you got a good price".

Ya I saw that, hate paying too much for something. I think I'll be happy with mine, although havnt fully put it through the paces yet.

Mine makes some coil whine but with case closed... Its Ok, that corsair capellix drove me nuts thou - still waiting for a refund on that.

I'm really torn between the X570 Tomahawk and this B550 Unify. Basically the same price now and although the Tomahawk is a more future proof board, the Unify has those little handy features like clear cmos and technically better overclocking. Then again I can't even see one single person have issues with coil whine or whatever on the Tomahawk even when specifically searching for it.

Tough choices. :(

Ya not sure about the tomahawk but I like this board because:

1. Its all black
2. Nice m2 drive cooling ie dbl sided cooling
3.looks nice
4. Nice VRM cooling
5. And of course no mb fan.

My x570 unify chipset has never ever spun up during operation. It does however spin up when powered on. So at least I know it is working

i got 3 nvme drives plugged into 3 m.2 slots on the board and often times do transfer big files between at least two of the drives.

The whole chipset fan thing is just a myth as far as I am concerned.
