New Netflix Series - The Umbrella Academy

Surprised now more love for this in here.

I finished S4 last night, a shame that it was only 6 episodes, and i know there's been some complaints about the ending according to my wife. However i thought it ended in a decent way. It's a silly show as @doodah says above so was never going to be overly serious at the end.

I can see why the ending got crapped on tbh, it just comes out of nowhere like a Moffat era Doctor who resolution.

Thematically I do like the idea that they are inherently an imbalance and their very existence will always lead to an apocalypse but the execution was just stupid, most of what happened in the first 5 episodes is absolutely irrelevant, not even character growth, just them doing things because they couldn't shelve them to the last minute. I would honestly recommend anyone watching it to just call it at the end of season 3 and pretend the reset was a happy ending.

Actually no, don't stop at 3, finish season 3, then forward to the last two minutes of season 4, that, that would work.

Pretty disappointing ending tbh. All that built up for nothing. From what i read online the Comics isnt finished yet so this is all new material unique to the show. I cant really explain why i am disappointed but a large part of it is how abrupt it happened. For me it was far too convenient and felt rushed.

Also if

All of them is needed to reset the timeline because it started with the unnatural births, then according to this logic wouldnt all 43 babies born in the first series need to be present to be reabsorbed by the cleaning or am i missing something?

It was never outright said, but it looks like there wasn't any marigold kids in this timeline, hence why Hargreaves wife disguised as Tobias Funke set them on the path that leads to the marigold, them getting repowered and meeting jennifer, even though that doesn't make sense as a motivation, they had a universe with no marigold, the durango was safely contained, and then she empowers the umbrella's because this is her greatest sin?

But pretty much just chalk up to the general lack of care in the season, why did Luthor look huge again when that wasn't his power, that was something that happened later seperate to his powers, what was the point of everyone getting strange secondary powers when nothing comes of it (like what the hell is allisons new power, she rumours one guy just on eye contact, then is suddenly super strong, or can leivatate a guy, or burst that dudes nuts), , what was the point of reminding everyone that Viktor can pull marigold powers from people, make it a plot point for 4 episodes and then forget about it at the end when it could have actually been a thing, what was the point of Five and Lila having this 7 years separated from everyone else when they had no time to address it afterwards and do anything with it, which five left the journal our five found, it didn't lead him to the cafe so it wasn't for that, it was just false drama that he sat on it. Why is Sloan just never mentioned again, like even if they can't get the actress back, it should still be a luthor plot, and a hell of a lot better than Klaus and Thunderbolt , where does a giant squid with a child inside come from and why is it never mentioned again (I Figured when this started the secondary mutations where leading to something, like a stable time loop with Ben's mutation but no, nothing), and why does she come out of knowing the word cleanse besides for a suitably creepy episode opening? . And if it required all marigold kids to go into the cleanse, than what about all the alternate fives at the end?

And the worst of it. Hargreaves, after being an irredeemable ******* in all incarnations through the show, might be the only one who got his happy ending.

Like I said, Moffat era Who, specifically a story like the Flux where he realised the story he wanted to tell needed ten episodes and was totally undeterred when he got six.

Good point I noticed that too when Luthor got reset back to his original body minus the power. He should not have the ape body at all. That was artificially added to keep him alive. So many plot holes it really was careless and not thought out very well.

Lame season overall, but the last episode gave some good closure and was probably the strongest of the lot. Which is saying something.

Not entirely sure why they thought this season was needed though, or needed as a 6 episode arc where 5 of the 6 episodes were filler.
