Nice one, I've got rid of the top section also, but at a similar stage:

Need a CSS boffin to get it even darker just like the old theme. Still a strain for my eyes to read the text on the main content window (would prefer whiter font on true black).
 
I much prefer the flatter style, but can somebody make a flat theme with the original blue colours like the old forums?

I am not liking all these boxes on the new forum!
