New OcUK Website

Sort by price within a category is an absolute godsend too for comparing different brand's product prices :)
 
Looks pwetty... though how long it is going to take to learn the new layout to actually say definitely if it is easier or more difficult I don't know. Personally the old site kind of gave the company an industrial feel. Which I liked, this is a very obvious shift to a mainstream ordering and browsing system.

Only real gripe so far... I Like having reviews... thought it was a nice touch, especially when supported by a massively knowledgable crowd like the guys in here.... BUT YOU CAN'T USE PUNCTUATION!?!?!?!?!?!? You could lose all the business from the folks in SC overnight :p Seriously Please fix it!
 
Preferred the old site tbh. It's simplicity made components easy to find and navigate. The new site looks similar to a competitors site - one who I horribly dislike because their webby is a tad cumbersome to use. I've not really looked at OCUK's properly just yet so I can't say anything yet.

Spie, you need to get rid of that great big '7900 GTX Performance' banner on spanning the middle colum on the homepage. Looks really silly and very out of place mate. It's pushing the products on the amazing deals area too far down and out of sight.
 
It's good and bad.

The design is a bit cliché, it's the same as a lot of competitors, so to me, OcUK have now blended in further with all their competitors. I don't know if this is good or bad, but I used to like the OcUK site because it stood the test of time so well, it was a poor interface, sure, but it was different, it had character. This one just looks like all the rest now.

The good part is the mark-up, it's valid XHTML with a healthy dollop of CSS. A lot more accessible and a lot more semantic. Layout tables have gone, and CSS based design has took over. :)

Overall, I consider it an improvement, but I can't help think it's fell in with the rest of the crowd now, instead of doing what the old site did, being unique.
 
I just logged onto the OcUK webby and thought it had all gone wrong. I refreshed the page, even re-typed in the address a few time.

Good job in updating chaps. I must admit I did like how "clean" the previous site is but I'm sure that over time I will get used to the updated site.

Is it "three click" compliant?

It's okay.. ish but now it's no different to other sites really. Doesn't look like 1 competitor.. looks like 2-3 actually.

Loved how, with the old site, you could hop on the site and have want you wanted to buy in your basket and ordered in seconds.. now it takes a while to find each product. And I also don't like the way you have to click products for descriptions, and the pics aren't big enough.
 
Honestly better in every respect. Very usable (I particularly like the colour coding), and search is now offered as a prominent navigation method (as well it should).

Visually it's nothing particularly special, but who needs things to look special? It looks good and more importantly is much easier to use than the old site.

Now you just need to build some recommendation features into it. I can't speak for anyone else, but there are many times that I've gone to a certain internet retailer, with the intent of only buying a certain product, and come away with loads more stuff due to (good!) recommendations.

Other sites always seemed to have loads of products that are almost identical and it took too many clicks and open windows to be able to compare them. Now it seems the same on ocuk. You just get a big long list of products with long confusing names and it's too hard to distinguish between them.

Personally I don't like the big forum image link to the right, maybe remove the image and put the forum link across the top like it used to be?

Which is where recommendations come in. I hate discussing this because it's so hard to explain things without mentioning competitors.

The best thing to do is rank products according to popularity (times bought in the last month/fortnight/whatever) and display those when you first visit a category, with the products list below it.

Also, something you might consider is a comparison function. A certain Scandinavian-named online PC site does this and it's a godsend when you're umming and ahhing about what particular product to buy. Essentially, it lists the product specs of two or more products next to each other in a table, so you can easily see which product trumps the others and in which areas.

I do like the new updated look but does feel exactly like a competitors! Which i hated as you cannot browse anymore you have to search to find what you want! I did prefer the old system of click manufacturer, size etc.etc. I suppose its just humans not adapting to change again :rolleyes:

I do not like having to put my credit card details during the sign up progress, is there anyway i can have a normal account which i can then put my details in at the last moment? Because im a bit sceptic of leaving my details on a database.

As said before capitals would be a good idea.

I much prefer the older way, it made OcUKs site feel better, and more unique. This way it feels exactly like most other big hardware companies sites.
