**** New Official DayZ Thread *****

Totally new to DayZ (still downloading Arma2) any tips on where to start with the mod?

Also wouldn't mind being shown the basic ropes in a group if anyone is willing :)

You can't go wrong with the two Epoch servers run by the two members from here.

Look for MGT and CPC. Both servers offer different experiences, but both have established players that are happy to take newbies under their wing.

DayZero is very much like DayZ when it first came out IMO, and as AK & DG already said....it runs sooooo much smoother giving higher FPS.

Hopefully see you online.

Ofcause it's smoother, it hardly has ANY grass at all!

It also has less buildings, if I remember from the beta reviews just previous to launch the entire northern half the map is empty

The Chernarus map runs smoother too, and that has more going on...for instance, the hospitals are three floors of corridors. There was no lag in Elektro either despite a rammed server.

Granted the Prodogorsk map has a lot of rolling hills with pretty trees, but when you reach a town and see all the trash & vehicle wrecks everywhere, you really do immerse yourself without thinking about it.

Meh maybe ( Prodogorsk )

However I do enjoy the map, it is fun with a friend... I just find it too tedious for my tastes, gets I'm used to Lingor and the AI lol

Prodogorsk is a new experience for me, so it'll be a while before I'm even close to bored of it. I also have lives in Epoch that'll I'll play alongside my new Prod adventures and I probably will also play a DayZero Chernarus server too.

Great laugh from ak22 rage quiting on DayZero with a small battle as well, to me being killed by a cheating AI lol on Lingor and Dlknight in a mad shoot out again on Lingor :D

Dayzero has really brought me and friends at work back to the mod. It runs amazingly well and more responsive menus. Prod seems a bit barren at first but once you move away from the starter area it really is a nice map.

Dayzero seems to have done what the mod should have done a long time ago. I especially like the nerf on loot and having to scavenge and actually survive instead of running round with a DMR in the first 30mins of spawning.

How the hell do people find DMRs in the first 30 minutes of spawning?

End of the first 30 I've usually got an axe, basic hunting/food prep gear and beans lol.

It's stupidly easy to get high powered rifles on some of the mods. Not played vanilla for a long time so not sure how that is now.

We have updated our Epoch server to 1.0.2.1 and moved it onto our dedi box, the ip is 188.165.250.134:2302

Just had a go on DayZ for the first time in about a year, playing DayZero and I have to say it is pretty impressive, runs brilliantly and the changes to the map are great.

Wasn't really interested in keeping the character so went on a bit of a treck, found a Ural full of crap on a hill and drove around the map for a while honking me horn but didn't come across anyone so I went up to the NW Airfield and drove around for a bit, found what appeared to be a microlight but couldn't get it to work, then someone killed me and I remembered why I stopped playing DayZ, the fact everyone shoots on sight if you aren't part of your group.

Still, enjoyed the mod and will probably have another got in a few days.

Yeah, this is exactly why I never take chances and either avoid going near other players or shoot them if they are in my way. I tried last week on the MGT Overwatch server and again on the CPC Epoch server to play nice and talk to people, but end up getting shot on site.

I'm sick of the KOS mentality, It's lazy, infuriating and quite frankly not really being a good all round player. "hurrdurr look at that guy that's unarmed, ill just shoot him" or "ah look I've got all this nice gear, but I'm going to be a git and kill them all cause that's all I can do hurrrrrrrr"

Played today, got killed 3 times on CPC, ragequitted. I cant handle the bs

Killing other players is a core part of what DayZ is. If it wasn't, what else would there be to do?

Kill no challenge zombies?
Roleplay?
Build bases to hide your loot in to go kill no challenge zombies?

What makes DayZ unique is the randomness players add to it and if everyone loves each other there won't be a fear aspect.

If you don't want to be shot on sight, play on a no pvp server, run your own locked server (you'll still get shot by players for raging you did something wrong eventually, it happens in any game) or play the sims because without pvp thats all DayZ is or habbo hotel if you want the social aspect of it.

Oh put your dummy back in your mouth.

Being killed on sight is not a problem, PvP is not a problem, I thoroughly enjoy PvP in DayZ and agree fully that player interaction is the core element of the mod and without it there really isn't anything there.

The issue is the element of fear that was there when the mod was new whenever you saw someone and thought "is this guy a bandit or friendly?" has completely disappeared, if the other person has a weapon you are guaranteed to either kill or be killed, no one communicates with strangers any more. That is my problem with DayZ as it is now.

If you know for a fact that everyone is your enemy, what is there to fear? Other players just turn into particularly advanced zombies. One of the reasons I am looking forward to the stand alone is the apparent value being placed on equipment, my hope is that this makes people rather more reluctant to gun down every single player they see because there is no reason not to.
