New Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II - The perfect camera???

Ouch just seen a price leak rumour that its going to be 1899 euros for body only so £1,708 :(

Thats more than I wanted. Hoped for £1000, would have stretched to £1,300 in my head and justified it somehow.

£1,708 means I would be better off selling all my lens and buying Fuji .

Ouch add a 12-40 that's well over 2k

Yeah if those prices are right then Olympus has overpriced it. I know it has a lot going for it and the compactness and lightness of the lens system but its still a m4/3 sensor and there are much better and not much bigger APS-C cameras you can have for that kind of money.

That's exactly it, people choose m43 because of:

Compactness (which the EM1 isn't)
Value (nope at that price)
Lens range (still pretty good, but not cheap and most new lenses seem to be expensive pro lenses at the mo, third party support is slow)
IBIS (creeping in elsewhere now like the A6500)

Where as Oly seem to have forgotten this and pushed into a crowded high end market with a camera that is held back by its smaller sensor. Unless that sensor has made a big leap from the current 20MP sensor I'd be disappointed with the results at that price. It's not even going to be that compact with a pro lens bolted on.

If it's £1708 or thereabouts I won't be buying it just to get BIF. I'll stick with my Mk1, it can do most things I want very well, particularly with the glass I've invested in.
If I was that fussed about BIF I would buy a second hand Canon 7Dii and a 400mm f5.6 for about £1400.

Are you able to name the site where you saw this figure quoted?

olympus claim that it will be in the fuji xt-2 price give or take so what ever that will be ,hope it will not be to pricey though sold my gh4 to pay for the omd em1 mk2 hoping that the 4k will be good with ibis at 5.5 stops with decent af-c will give panasonic gh5 a run for its money .

this is the top end oly, of course it costs more and is larger.
the others lower down the range cover the cheaper and more compact side of their range, its not any different to the mk1 versions really
and these prices are pure speculation at this point-yes they might be close but we don't know that yet.
even the 12-40 pro oly is compact for the specification, yes its not fit in pocket but that's what point and shoots like the high end sony does well.
if this lens was made to work on a larger sensor it would need to be way bigger and because of that weigh a lot more. I think the oly range works well with choice of body size and features

well not only are the lenses smaller but they need to be sharper due to the smaller pixels there are not many full frame lenses that resolve as much detail on a m43 system as there own hence why the cost, harder to make a lens twice as sharp when small

Dont get me wrong, I love the olympus m43 system and I love the lens. However I padi £500 for a OMD EM5 mark II which has 99% of the features of the OMD EM1 mark i eacept for the AF especially with all the firmware upgrades to it unlocking new features.

But a jump from £500 to 1899 euros is just too too much. I know its their flag body but the extra features just arent worth three times the money.

I can "upgrade" to a mark 1 em1 for £700 now.

but i think the sensor in your mk11 has better long exposure noise handling than the em1 mk1 if thats important to you,
to be honest oly and fuji have the same problem in so much as their cameras lose way more in depreciation than canon/nikon

Yeah I know there is more than just the AF sensors, there is the speed, better image quality at hgiher ISOs, larger res sensor etc.

Just not sure its worth double a mark i EM1 or triple and mark 2 EM5
