** NEW SAMSUNG ODYSSEY G7/G9 MONITORS 27-49" AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER **

Titan Xp (2017) it will stay at 1000-1400mhz core (I would need keep eye on it to be an exact number) instead of 139mhz < this is fine even at 200hz but not 240hz.

AFAIK my card can do 12bit (not sure if different Dev drivers) but I loose 10bit if I set it to 240hz and others noted the same.

Odd, My 2080 Super defo downclocks at 240hz. Could be a driver issue that gets worked out at Nvidia's end maybe?

Not too fussed about HDR as Windows support is poor and if you read some of the reviews linked to in this thread you can see one guy said he did not even class this as proper HDR due to the cheap edge lit set up and lowish nits about 400ish which can only hit 600nits for a second or so during an explosion.

Yeah, HDR600 isnt by any means proper HDR. For things like Game of Thrones you notice the edge lit dimming a lot, but playing things like Resident Evil 2 Remaster, The Division, Death Stranding etc all look like SDR, but with brighter brights and dimmer dark scenes, which is about what you'd expect from a HDR600 panel anyway. Its never going to compete with a proper OLED for example.

Excellent source of information these forums glad I signed up really appreciate the transparency and honesty of the posters. Is anyone in the same boat as me waiting on the G9?, prepared to wait it out or looking at alternatives? I saw a date of August 6th thrown about so will wait till then and see what happens.

Yeas but should be better than so called HDR400/HDR10 that many do not rate at all.

EDIT: This guy has a 2980Ti and cannot idle :

On order, but is there an alternative currently?

I'm thinking should I take as soon as I get or is it worth waiting a few months whilst all this quality chatter gets sorted out?

I was looking at a Alienware AW3420DW, & a LG 38GL950G not really alternatives but similiar prices. Ideally I would go for either a Asus PG35VQ or an Acer X35 but the prices of these are about a grand more than the Samsung.

I would love to say I am a epic gamer but I am in it for the screen space so I can have loads of excel, PowerPoint and devop tickets open. Currently have a 23” quad set up. That and cause I just want it cause it looks cool

Not sure if I could justify paying a grand more.

what features made you order?

240hz
Screen size
Gsync compatible
HDR

I wanted something a little future proof tbh and the Samsung ticks all the boxes for what I want balance of work and gaming.

Yer it ticks the boxes for what it can grow into with the next couple of cycles of gpus. feels enough to wait and spend the extra coin above the current / available 49ers.

I do just want it on my desk now, built a new system last week and the final parts are in this order.

Yes definitely, I currently own a 2080ti and from what I've seen that will struggle to get the most out of this screen so as you say with the next couple of gpu cycles will give this screen a bit of future proofing for the next few years. From what I've seen those monitors not dispatched last week on the 15th are going through extra quality control measures so hopefully they will have ironed out the issues of the first batch.

I only put a 2080super in as will move up to a 3000 series when they come out.
I’m hoping i don’t like it so much that I want a second one for above ...

@josh1quattro, Just reading that the 1000 series does not support Display Port "Display Stream Compression" (DSC) so cannot compress the signal enough like your 2000 series even though at launch most reviews site copy/pasted the same specs listing them as supporting it.

"Using DSC with HBR3 transmission rates, DisplayPort 1.4 can support 8K UHD (7680 × 4320) at 60 Hz or 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) at 120 Hz with 30 bit/px RGB <Wiki

So basically 144hz 10bit or higher and drop to 8bit for me and 10bit is needed to do HDR600 fully AFAIK.

I'm really on the fence at the moment about the G9. Its between this and the LG cx 48" - its to attach to a sim racing rig so i think the G9 is better but availability and quality issues are pushing me to the LG. Also i might want to get one of the new consoles so the TV is better in this regard (aspect ratio). Also we simply dont know when the G9 is gonna properly land yet...

Personally Do you need it now ? The CX looks great but we know that its 99% likely in the black friday sales it will be cheaper,

You need to do some research mate, the CX has issues too when it comes to gaming, particularly in the blacks department.

If its racing - I will have to say Ultrawide or the G9 if you can wait. Racing is amazing on super ultrawides. Normal ultrawides don't cut it for me any more.

How much better is the G9 vs the previous G9 with larger radius curve? Anybody done a compare n contrast? I dont really need 240hz :)

New one offers gsynch compatibility as well. I will let you know when I get mine. However I am bit worried as I play a fair few fighting games. My son likes watching - just worried its too curved for that. I can see the advantages in racing games and fps the steeper curve though.
