New SSD Boot Timer

9 months and it's even on par with a 2 months c300 128. That's a nice setup mate.
Thanks :)

It's SLC so there's no degradation, but it's not a fresh install either so the results aren't artificial. Despite the transfer speeds being way behind current drives it still manages to be fast. Can't wait for a C300 though ;)

Not bad but not stellar.

I've got Steam and Microsoft Security Essentials. Does that count? :)

That's quite good considering the services that needs to be loaded. Mine has everything loaded on startup as well including Kaspersky.

Here's a single Vertex 2E 60GB FW 1.11

Hmmm, how come I get:
Time to logon 19 seconds
Time to desktop 30 seconds

When I'm using a C300 64Gb and a fairly fresh (three or four weeks) install of Win7 x64

Any ideas what I might need to look at to improve that?

Yes, I don't get how people can get those crazy boot times. Is this a question of the software / services running at startup?

Some mobo's has an extended post check procedure and yes start up items and services does affect log-on time as well. Overclocking help improve this.

Time to Logon: 11 seconds
Time to Desktop: 19 seconds

OCZ Vertex 1 90GB. A few days after a clean Win 7 install with ATI CCC, Anti-Virus, Steam, Skype, MSN, Sound controller and couple of other small bits and bobs loading up at start.

Do these times include waiting for the motherboard to post etc? If so they seem ridiculously quick to me.

On my Vaio laptop after hitting the power button my post process seems to consist of a screen saying "VAIO" for barely 2 seconds, I guess thats part of the reason I managed 12 seconds to desktop.

Although I didn't disable services or startup items, I have disabled that windows 7 loading animation, boot timeout is set to 0 secs and I have enabled all cores for the bootup in msconfig.

heh..my time to desktop is 93sec ... my OS is on Vertex 60gb ... what can be the problem ?!?!?!? i have other drives as well but OS is on SSD ... set on ahci ...any ideas ?? please ??
edit :i should mention that my tim to logon is 58sec ...and thats at least twice as long as on my singe core laptop ... (without ssd)

Depends on what are you using it for. For a Laptop, a 128GB should be the minimum while for a desktop, for OS and some apps, a 60-64 GB will suffice provided you have a mechanical drive to store all your datas.

That's a pretty silly generalisation, it's completely subjective depending on an individuals usage. Many laptop users will only have an OS, Office and use web browser. I get by fine using a 30gb drive in my laptop yet I need at least 100GB for my desktop.
