New Star Trek series - 2017

+1

Anyone checked out Star Trek Prodigy? Any good?

Yea, its good i thought, more star wars than trek tho i thought but if u just watch it with no expectations it isnt bad. I liked it more than lower decks for quality and less comical/cartoony. Tho lower decks does have the canon going for it. I think im gona enjoy prodigy.

Wait, you thought Prodigy was better than Lower Decks?

Prodigy being for the 7+ Nickelodeon group.

lower decks is more for kids than prodigy imo. Have you seen prodigy yet if not you should then u might see why i think that way.
No I have seen it. Its clearly aimed at the under 10 crowd. Lower Decks is more for the 20 something age group, Rick and Morty fans etc. Certainly NOT for kids. That's for sure. Lots of adult humor.

I love Lower Decks.

The Orville is the best recent Star Trek show. The two seasons are now on Disney+
It's partly a comedy but it has a strong Next-gen vibe, and has some suprisingly good stories based on moral dilemmas and alien cultures, and some decent action and suspense.

Tried to like the Orville but the characters and casting are just awful. If you don't care about the characters it's difficult to get invested in a show, The Burnham show has similar problems though.

The only character I liked left the show, she was hot. They could kill off any of the other characters and I wouldn't care, including the captain. Most of them add very little to show and they feel generic, like they they just copy and pasted characters from a bunch of random SciFi series.

It tries to be serious but it doesn't work, they can be killing people in a life and death situation in one scene, and then blowing out birthday candles in the next with no thought given to the fact they just killed a bunch of people. It's either a comedy or it's not, feels conflicted.

And now 2 days before release its been announced Netflix no longer have the international rights for it and we need to wait till Paramount+ launches next year to watch it in the UK.

GG.

Are you f'ing kidding?! What an actual joke. I'm certainly not waiting.

Okay. I understand that this is terrible news for some...and I genuinely do get it, people actually like this series and that's fine.

But I'm laughing quite hard right now.

I, of course, will be watching...and doubtless snarking. I'm not going to say how I'll watch it because for some bizarre, unaccountable reason I quite like my forum account here. But I will maintain past practice of sticking snark/commentary/snarky commentary in spoiler tags. And maybe move camp to the US TV show section? Guess that'll depend on the moderator(s) view. What say you @EVH, @Maccy, @ThundyCat? Should commentary that's vaguely close to the episode releases go in the US section from here on out?
