New summer transfer thread

We've sold one player, that was morrison and he was hardly our best was he ?

I mean letting players leave as well, between Viduka and Yakubu they scored 26 goals in the Premiership and 9 goals in the FA Cup. Aside from that you failed to score in 14 Premiership games too. Where are the goals going to come from next season if Yakubu goes to Everton?

If yakubu does leave in the next 3 days or so Southgate has close to £20million pounds and 3 weeks to improve the squad before the transfer window closes

im not sure what faith the smoggys have in southgate, but im fairly sure the rest of the premiership is wondering who he will ponder over bringing in, and then who he'll pay over the odds for, only for said player to flop most likely, or spit their dummy out.
I cant really see anyone able to score half the goals that pair did being brought it.

Why is he going to pay over the odds for any one and why are they going to spit their dummy out ? hes proved very good in the transfer market so far with some absoulte bargins

i.e Woodgate, Acra, Tuncay, Young

I wouldn't write him off

I think you have your "Everything Serie A is good" Tinted glasses on. Flattery for Utd was justified. The tactics were absolutley spot on. Smith stopped the back four playing by closing them down. Totti didnt get the ball. It wasn't a case of Roma playing poorly. We never allowed them to play in the first place.
Its not tinted glasses at all.
Infact if anyone's got tinted glasses on here its people who say that United made Roma look bad!
The 'tinted glasses' routine is getting a little old to. ;).

Why cant you accept that Roma played badly, and thats why United won by so many?

Yes United did well against Roma in the second leg, but to say that United 'made' them play like that is just blindless. Its like saying 'were so good that we can make a SeriaA team look really bad'. Its just blind ignorence that is.

Im not taking anything away from United, they played very well and were great to watch. But i very much doubt that United playing as they did that night would have won by as many if Roma actually turned up. Notice the 'won by as many' and what that implys. ;).

But back to the original point, if Fletcher was that good that 'he kept Totti at bay' then why has he only done a performance like that when Totti was playing badly eh? Why hadnt he done the same sort of performance in the 1st leg? Against Kaka as well? Thats my point.
Saying Fletcher is good because of a performance against someone who was playing very badly is just daft.

Indeed. Yakubu clocked out and Viduka clocked in :p

Pretty much. They simply couldn't form a decent partnership. Which basically resulted in the team playing to one or the others strength.

Viduka will be a loss to us based on his form in the 2nd half of the season. He was garbage in the first half thou. Same the season prior and his first season was disrupted by injury. As good a player as he can be on his day, and he can be world class, you also have to take the other end of the spectrum when he can absolutely awful.

As for Yak, I very much doubt he'll be sold. In fact I'm certain he'll still be a Boro player come September.

Totti was still one of their brightest players in the 2nd leg, Fletcher was excellent that game and was very rarely more than 5-10 yards away from him.
Roma did turn up, we just put together the performance of the tournament. Our passing was exceptional. If we'd played that well we'd have hammered any team in the tournament and Fletcher was a part of that.

Fletcher was also one of our stronger performers from March to the end of the season. God knows what happened but he was both solid and reliable.

Nope. Not a chance.
You cant compare the performance against one team to how you'd perform against another.
Iirc, you lined up similarly against Milan and what happened there?;).
Same applys to teams like Barca or Lyon.

To the original point, is Fletcher that good that he can keep the players the likes of Totti at bay? Imo no. Totti played bad.
One good game doesnt make you good.
Look at Boularouz, he had a good game against Barca keeping Ronny quiet. Doesnt make him as good a player as your making Fletcher out to be.

Fletcher isnt bad by any means, but he's not 1st team material for the top 4 in the 3 main leagues in Europe.
He's a solid mid table team player imo.

.

ehehe we changed formation, dropped Smith and lined up very differently.

Hence we struggled because we werent playing our natural formation or style. Beat them at home, which was an improvement on last year and then forgot to get on the plane to Milan.

I thnk this Yakubu story is only getting so much attention cause there is no news form the big 4 or any other big London teams i.e Tottenham or Westham and its the biggest story of the day

Everton have made an enquiry about Middlesbrough's £10m-rated striker Yakubu, BBC Sport understands.

Boss David Moyes wants to strengthen his attacking options after selling James Beattie to Sheffield United and losing James Vaughan to injury.

Moyes is now expected to follow up his interest with a firm bid, testing Middlesbrough's resolve to keep the 24-year-old Nigerian.

He may also make an £8m bid for Benfica midfielder Manuel Fernandes, 21.

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate may prove a reluctant seller but could be tempted by money from the sale of Yakubu to revamp other areas of his squad.

I think they just needed to fill some time, i mean for gods sake SSN were talking to Frank Quedrue :p I hope im right as the Yak would be a big loss

Boros number 9 shirt remains free does this mean someone is coming to take it ? someone spectacular ? ! ? I ****** wish :(

not worried that viduka left , i liked him but for the wages he wanted it wudnt of been worth the risk that hed be fit .

certainly not worried about morrison , hes never been a winger and we dont really need him in central midfield either , might aswell cash in instead of benching him all year

would be very annoyed if the yak left though , as lazy as he is he still get the job done , strolls on scores then strolls off

quite literally with the strolling

we need a right sided attacking player and then we should do ok next year , could argue that we should buy a keeper too

for the first time in god knows how long weve got some speed upfront and a decent right back which is good news !

just a shame on all the defensive injurys
