New summer transfer thread

I personally like Evertons style of play, if only to watch a master ply his trade in Arteta. I wish we had him, perfect replacement for Scholes.

An EPL spokesman has said that a verdict on the Heinze case is expected sometime tomorrow.

Is he needed Baz at your place

I would be interested to see where it all went sour with him. Fans player of the year one minute, we support him through Injury. He rushes back to get to the world cup and gets a futher injury and now it's thanks for all the money you spent but I want to get on my bike, Byeeeeeeeeee.

Its a tricky one; if Arbeloa plays like he did yesterday and in the games vs Barca then he's not urgently needed at lb, especially when we've got Riise and Aurelio (when fit) who can play there too and with Agger and Carra at cb he's not going to play much at cb either.

From the sounds of it he would be joining as competition for Riise, Arbeloa and Aurelio (all of whom can and have played in other positions) at lb but will also provide decent cover at cb if and when either of Carra or Agger are suspended/injured.

Im sure he'll get his fair share of games as Arbeloa was signed as a rb and Rafa will often play Riise and Aurelio on the left side of midfield but is he needed? Proberly not, which is why at £7m and his age im not overly keen on him signing.

Although his best position is left back I think Rafa is signing him primarily as cover for centre back, atm we only have 3 centre backs in our squad and if 2 of them get injured/suspended we don't actually have anyone else. Hyypia is also leaving after this season (presumably) so we will need some experiance to come in if Agger or Carra can't play.

which in itself should be a worry - he is not that good at centre back; lack of true height and pace are exposed, as is his rashness in the tackle and lack of positioning. what made him a decent prem left back was his hustle and energy, perfect for the man utd style of play but i am not so sure if it suits liverpool. they already have that in too many players already...

would have liked to have seen liverpool get baines or the young juve left back and a separate centre half...

it is indeed remarkable how carra and agger play so often - though i sense that carragher is one of them players that needs the regular games to keep his game on top form.

Riquelme is an interesting one; He certainly would add a much needed creative spark but do we possess a defensively minded player to sit back as he rarely ventures behind the half way line? Unless we use a 5-man midfield, but we have 4 quality strikers to keep happy?

spurs need defenders, not midfielders.
No we don't.

King, Dawson, Kaboul, Rocha, Gardener CB's
Chimbonda, Salty, Lee, Ekotto, Ilfil, Bale FB's

We already have 11, why would we need more? We desperately need a defensive midfielder if you ask me. If we need another attacking midfielder to provide a spark then what's the point in having Lennon, Routledge, Jenas, Zokora and Malbranque? These are supposed to be attacking midfielders aren't they?

Keane and Berbatov can drop deep aswell and provide more flair. I fear another £10m wasted if we go for this guy :(
