New summer transfer thread

it's a joy! and all that stuff off benitez, kind of knocks into touch the whole 'it's a win win situation for us, we're not that bothered but it unsettles united'.

I wonder why Rafa has gone and had a massive rant over pretty much nothing, I'm not sure why he thinks United must sell one of their players to their rivals anyway. Although I agree with him that we get stuck with way more early kick offs than anyone else.

Both Ferguson and Mourinho commented on the number of early and late saturday kick offs we both had to suit Sky and co for the tv coverage of the games. There should be a winter break and international friendlies should be scrapped as expecting a player to play in 50 odd games a season at the top level then play pointless friendlies in between is too much regardless of how much they get paid. The season should be extended to finish in June and the games more evenly spaced out. It's only really the top 6 or so teams in the EPL who play in Europe as well that get stiffed most of the time by the schedule.

He's been Keegan'ed :D

you shouldn;t play such exciting great to watch football then should you?

only joking, obviously...

no idea why it comes out like that, possibly there should be some way to mix it up more but i suppose giving sky that power is the price of the great tv deal the pl has.

Yes it took a long time because an agreement was needed with West Ham, but thats nothing to do with what Rafa's saying; after we reached our agreement with MSI and West Ham we still had to wait 3 weeks before the EPL sanctioned the deal, you waited 3 days for your deal to be sanctioned once you reached your agreement.

The Dutch FA upheld the ban and the English FA had to go along with it under Fifa rules. But even if the English FA had any thing to do with it, the EPL had absolutely nothing to do with any bans, which is what you were saying.

just to confirm, the mascherano transfer was structuring a 3rd part ownership into a manner that the pl could pass as legitimate bearing in mind they were fining west ham. now assuming the tevez contract with united has only material differences then with the precedent of the move set it would only be a case of confirming details of contract. I imagine they also confirmed for themselves the details regarding his registration being passed between 3 clubs in a season.

I think all in all it was just a very complicated transfer.

Rubbish he's just doing the same as what Fergie and JM have done in the past, the 'seige mentality' stuff. Though to be fair to Rafa we play 4 matches away on a Saturday lunch-time after an international break before November, compared with none for yourselves and Chelsea.

But isnt that Sky picking what games and when?

Nowt to do with the Premier League

I believe that for something like the last 3 seasons Man Utd have had the least 3pm kick offs than any other club, so that's moot.

It's just how the schedule works out. I'm sure in previous years either ourselves, Chelsea or Arsenal were in similar positions. I think his outburst has been building since last season after the CL final. It's probably best that it's out of his system now as expectations seem to be higher than previous years. But I think he is feeling the pressure a little 3 games into the new season. Well 2 games so far for you lot. It baffles me that the whole Heinze issue really bothered him.

I think that as well but I have no evidence to back it up. But definitely last season it seemed that we kicked off early for quite a number of weeks, then we had the later kick offs for a while. It wasn't until near the end of the season that both us and Chelsea played on the same day at the same time for the first time since the start of the season.

Yes but the Premier League are the governing body and if a club feels like it's being unfairly treated they should take it to the PL, after all the PL give Sky jurusdiction over which games to show when.

Last season I remember Liverpool mainly kicking off at 12:45 and United getting a lot of Saturday 5:15 and Sunday 4:00 games.

Kicking off late afternoon is a lot more favourable than kicking off early.

Sort of, the EPL set the fixtures lists and then Sky can move the kick-off time (though with the EPL's permission). Regardless of the kick-off time we would still be playing away on a Saturday after an international break and in the case of this weekend you are playing at home on the sunday.

I believe we also played the most saturday lunch-time games last year too but there's no way its and unfair treatment from the EPL just Rafa trying to build up the 'seige mentality' stuff.

I don't think for a minute its him feeling the pressure, we've had a decent start to the season though i am suprised at how bothered he is about Heinze.

I know it was mentioned for sure for one of the last 3 seasons and I'm assuming that the other 2 are as we almost never have 3 o'clock games.

This season we have 1 in the run up to mid-October.
Liverpool have 3 alone in September.
Chelsea have 4 in the run up to mid-October too.

I don't think Rafa's arguement is about kicking-off at 3pm but more to do with the early kick-offs after an international week. And iirc we didn't have a 3pm kick-off last season till the end of October.
