New summer transfer thread

Bruce Buck was saying the other day that we've learnt from being mugged in past deals, if we go ahead with this one we've (RA has) learnt nowt:)

I guess in general your not going to pay over the top on transfer fee's but a bit like Sheva, if RA wants a specific player bad enough i can't see a little thing like £m's stand in his way.

Don't think its going to happen though.

It's a sorry state of affairs when the owner wants to go ahead and sign players that don't feature in the manager's plans. Mourinho should have total control over who comes and goes, not Abramovich. He wants to build some sort of world fantasy football team with his unlimited funds. He should leave it to the professionals, ie, Mourinho. If not, then he should take over the manager's job himself. Now that would be entertaining.

Didn't notice the RA bit :o

So sort of but the Alves deal is a sign that you can no longer spend £20m+ on a player if RA doesn't specifically want him, previously you've gone and spent way over the top on players but now it looks as if you're only going to do that if RA wants him not JM which like Linoge says is pretty sad. Basically you've learnt a little.

Linoge is spot on when he says that it's out of order if an owner is buying players over a managers head and that's what I meant by it smelling of the Shevchenko deal :)

Yep that was one of my reasons why i couldn't see JM staying at Chelsea, he left Benfica after a few months because of an interfering chairman/president. Maybe his wage at Chelsea was too good to walk away from? ;)

Mourinho wouldn't have walked. And Abramovich didn't want to risk sacking him because the likes of Terry and Lampard still had to sign new contracts at that time. Plus players close to Mourinho like Cech, Essien would have wanted to leave. I think when the time comes and Mourinho is off to another club, he will try and take Cech and Essien with him. I'd put money on it. And if I was him I'd do the same because they are the best players in their positions. I can't name anyone better than either of them.

Of course he's only there for the money and one day I hope we'll be able to employ a life long Chelsea fan as manager just as Liverpool have a true red in charge;)

Why didn't you think he would have walked? Like i said he's done it before under similar circumstances.

I agree with you about the players bit though, JM has an amazing way of getting players to play for him not particuarly the club.

Don't forget Drogba in there, he'd follow JM anywhere and vice-versa:)

lol you know full well that wasn't what i was saying :p

And so you know, Rafa left Valencia because he wanted to join a club where he would have full control over everything football related and thats what he's got, he's made changes throughout the club including kicking-out an Anfield legend.

Out of principle he wouldn't have walked. Money has nothing to do with it, I'm sure he already has enough money to give his grandkids kids comfortable lives. His status elevated (even further) when he joined Chelsea and I'm sure he wouldn't have liked the 'quitter' status he would have been given by some if he had walked out. In those situations you would rather be sacked because then you can turn around in the press and state that there were restrictions hampering your job and you fought for the teams benefit in certain matters, which to be honest would have been the complete truth had Abramovich sacked him.

I got the impression during the summer that Drogba was considering his options and was dropping hints here and there that he would relish taking up another challenge elsewhere. If he's still at Chelsea when Mourinho goes, I have no doubts that they'd link up again.

I think he was left out because Drogba isn't the best in his position. However, Essien and Cech definitely are absolute World Class.

Perhaps, but I can't think of any team in the world who wouldn't want Drogba as well as Cech and Essien in their starting line-up, may be the odd Spanish side but that's it:)

plus he'd have been paid the remainder of his contract ;) JM had every right to walk out after what happened that summer with them signing players he didn't want and selling ones he wanted to keep (without him being able to sign replacements) and then when they offered the job to Klinsman during that season. I don't think he would have been called a quitter, in fact i for one would have thought more of him for standing up to RA rather than let him do whatever he likes.

The one thing JM hasn't got that Benitez, Wenger and Fergie has is the control over the club, Chelsea have brought in people who have more power than JM does in certain areas (Grant, Anreson etc) and its no secret that JM doens't like that.

Drogba seems to be saying this stuff ever summer, not sure how true it is but im of no doubt that JM would take him (and he would go) if he moved.

Fowler?

Absolutely and I think the only reason he's still at Chelsea is JM, I also think that the purchase of Malouda had a lot to do with keeping Drogba happy, which incidently was one of the few purchases JM has openly been delighted with but he has been very good so far to be fair.
