New Superman is..

What a joke all this woke nonsense is. Make a new film and stop mucking about with established white or black characters for the sake of it. Surely at that point any actor taking the role must feel like they are a tick box for the studio?

Coming soon to a cinema near you, the remake of 'Roots' starring Tom Cruise as Kunta Kinte...

I think the issue will be what is his backstory going to be if it’s a black superman? Can you really imagine we’ll get a nice well adjusted farmboy or do we think they’ll ladle on every identarian bit of nonsense they think they can fit. The desire to have a black superman will lead to crappy plot choices and a fair bit of preaching too I’d wager.

And Iris Elba is far too old to be Bond. Craig is creaking as badly as late era Moore.

So no more Henry Cavil then?

Never say never just yet. There are rumours that AT&T are going to be culling people at WB. Obviously they can't just sack everyone without killing the company, but look to see a lot of people moving sideways or out over the next year.

Of course it will. It's 2021 lol

The previous superman actors have looked kinda like the comic book character. Of course twitter will cry racism when people don't like it and it'll get an oscar anyway. Go woke, go broke I guess. It will likely turn away fans and tank the franchise in the end, much like the Ghostbusters "reboot" did.

There are already well established black characters which no one seems to bother continuing with (Blade and Shaft for example). BLM would have a meltdown if one of those came back with a white guy.

Doesn't bother me if he's black as long as he's good and it isn't just to tick a box. But I thought Caville suited the role perfectly. So this does feel like box ticking and I doubt I will watch it.

I think he cares more about The Witcher series now tbh. Or maybe they have actually hired him for Bond.

Maybe get a few in before they hire a black guy for the roles :D

I think it potentially says more about the state of the DCU than anything else. I liked Caville as Superman and thought he suited and played the role well. It's just a shame the actual films were pretty rubbish.

There is a new Blade, it's still in early development but it will have Mahershala Ali playing the titular role.

There’s a really good version of Superman where he lands in Ukraine/Russia (12 hours later). It’s called Superman: Red Son. In that version, communism is the worldwide norm and the US is deemed to be like how North Korea is to us today.

So if that can be great then I don’t see why a black version of superman can’t be interesting in its own right if done well.

Nothing wrong with a black Super hero from Krypton, Lex is black in the new tv show.
but when the back story goes back as far as the 50's why is there a need to change it now? is it racist to question the motives?
I don't really care as i'm sick of all the superhero stuff now, too much of a good thing and boak I need something new now.
I'm having to go back into the 90's to find thing I've not seen before now to find something fun to watch.
