The only way CH would fit is if they changed it back into a proper car show.

Which won't happen because thats not how you get big viewing numbers.

The BBC must be really ****** with trying finding someone, might be viewed by many of the bigger stars as career suicide...........

I still think Suzi Perry would be a good shout as a presenter, and she likes her motorbikes too so could add that element to the show.

As long as they get her to do all the sports car reviews, in sun-baked exotic locations which require her to wear as little as possible, she'd get my vote! :D

Wheeler Dealers is a classic.

"We've put hundreds of hours in to this little motor, replaced the suspension and given it a fresh coat of paint. The car owes us £8,000 so we're asking just £9,000".

*5 mins later*...

"Darren is keen but he's offered less than we're asking. In the end, selling it for a profit of £67 is a job well done!"

classic brewer.

he is a money making genius. perfect for top gear.

They found Hammond and May through auditions, no?

Thats what has been claimed but both of them were professional motoring presenters BEFORE Top Gear - May had appearances on old Top Gear and Hammond sometimes presented on a cable television channel.

Here is Hammond reviewing the worlds most amazing car in 2001:

New format of not, the new show will always be compared to the old JC era, and tbh it simply can't live up to that, no matter how good it is.

i.e. you always love your first car and look back at it with rose tinted glasses. I think the same goes for TG tbh, it was a show in our hearts and thats very hard to replace.

Lol

Speak for yourself mate. My first car was a 52 plate Renault Clio Extreme

I think it's excellent that fans of the show (and non fans) can submit an audition video to be considered to be a new presenter.

BBC seem to have missed why people watch Top Gear.

It isn't about the cars, it is about blokey banter and bonhomie. Stick a women into the mix and that is destroyed.

Yeh man! What do women know... :o.

Don't think it's about what a woman knows or doesn't know about cars, more the fact that making "Gentleman's sausage" references with a bird stood next to you is going to be a little awkward.

Now JC is gone, the BBC can meddle - as they do with other shows. TG will now have a token female presenter. There will be reviews of small cars that the population of Mumsnet will see as value for money. I expect they'll be at least one topic on how dangerous speeding is - probably seeing how many hedgehogs can be run over at 71mph. Star in a reasonable priced car won't be driving fast round a track but parallel parking.

If you think about it, who else did the BBC really have other than Chris Evans. I mean really have presenter-wise that had even a chance of pulling it off? I expect, and I don't blame him, Chris Evans screwed the BBC into the ground to agree to host TG. I just hope that he also demanded free reign with the TG formula.
