New version of Xbox 360 coming in August with less heat and noise

Most things have teething problems when first released but MS has let it go on for too long. Sony may have also had a few hardware failures but as you said they are probably less then MS, also consider the fact that Sony have been in the Console business a lot longer then MS have so they know how make them, all you have to do is look at the success of the Playstation series.

This is one thing that bugs me about the Xbox 360.

When it came to failure rates the original Xbox wasn't very bad at all. It had its failure rate, but it was nothing on the Xbox 360 failure rate. I have to wonder who was smoking what this time around.

BTW how many of you have a 360 and have never got the RROD, how long have you had it?

My bro's launch console is still going strong. Although I think it has been 'modified' so that might be a reason why its not died yet, dunno why it would affect it though as its a hardware design fault which causes the RROD not something caused from a modification.

All 4 xbox 360s that I've had were/are very loud when playing a game, it does get mostly drowned out by my speakers when there's sound coming from the game, but when a game goes quiet the console sounds like a vacuum cleaner. I am yet to hear a quiet xbox 360.
Btw my curent console is a Falcon HDMI model. If these newerones have a quiet DVD drive I might consider 'upgrading' again.

The original Xbox was a monster, a big black, never failing monster.

If my 360 was to break ;) I've got until next March store warranty so I'll get a jasper me thinks. :)

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh <sighs>, how I loved that machine, It was like a big black friendly Labrador, always by your side, always trustworthy, it's shame M$ didn't do so well on the original xbox, still, it introduced them into the gaming industry and helped get them where they are today, really was a dam fine machine, integrated hard drive, built like a tank, nice stylish XMB, fantastic DVD and audio quality.

Didn't Microsoft make a loss on every sale of the 1st revision 360.

If so, do they make a loss on the current ones and will they make a loss on the one's coming in August?

I suppose if they make a loss on hardware, then existing users buying another 360 to replace their current ones are costing Microsoft money and therefore "shafting" them:p

Nah I think I read they've been making money on them for a while now, it's only the first batches they lose out on, the 65nm processes are done as it costs them less to make them, being quiter/cooler is just a byproduct of that.

Yeah thats what I suspected. I was just hoping for there to be some irony involved.

The only time the 360 has caused me problems with noise is with PGR3....for some reason that disc spun at insane speeds....
Every other game has been fine. Yeah I can hear the drive, but I dont care

Seems like august is the time of the year for hardware revisions! With the new 45Nm PS3 revision and this new 360 one, i wonder if they kind of plan these to coincide with one of the quieter times of the year (HW/SW sales) to boost sales. It could be just coincidence, but it would make sense to do something like that, im sure E3 will give us a bit more info in regards to them both.

I imagine that the 45nm fabrication process rolls out about the same time for all companies as the production plants get retrofitted for the process.
