New VXR8

Imagine how different this thread would be if it was £30k instead of £50k...

How much is the Holden in comparison?

It would be a cracking car for £30k.

It's about £43k in Aus. Problem is the Aussie dollar is very strong now - it used to be $2-2.5 to £1, and as a result the VXR8 was just over £35k when it first came out over here. But now its less than $1.60 to £1 :(

It is pretty much a direct Aus $ to GBP £ conversions along the exchange rate

But the issue is that in Aus other cars are more expensive afaik, which makes the Holden still be good value.

In UK the competitors are cheaper

I think Vauxhall have misinterpreted "its a cheap alternative to an M5" as "we can charge M5 money for it"

Plus, its hardly in keeping with the hippy EU car hating image is it, so I expect Vauxhall dont really want to sell that many over here.

I think they are largely victims of the exchange rate.

That's BS though, as some cars manufactured in Europe are sold for less than what they cost in Europe when they sell them in USA ... so clearly it's not just the exchange rate, but also market specific pricing

Yes my mistake - it's supposed to be a HSV Clubsport R8.

Which looks even more like the G8 :D

is this one still a rebadged hsv?

edit it is :P

you say that like its a bad thing.

The fact that its made in Oz and doesnt suffer from Euro namby pamby interfering and poor Euro build quality is the best thing about it.

LS3 6.2 V8 straight out of the corvette.

Yummy !

It's a rubbish Vauxhall dressed up, why would anyone bother?.

Well no, its actually a HSV, so the car is built in Australia on the Holden Production line, before being shipped off to HSV (a company founded by Tom Walkinshaw of TWR fame - RIP) for the final part of the build. Its then exported to the UK. The only thing thats vauxhall is the badge. As even Holden, the GM part of the equation, only partly build the car. They build a basic shell and send it to HSV's facility for completion.

Actually it seems it IS less than it costs in Australia - it's now based on a higher spec HSV not the R8 Clubsport.

Did that ridiculous argument just happen?

What's next? Complaining the new Astra looks too much like an Opel?

The opposite happened. Apparently a Pontiac G8 doesnt look good but a Commodore does. The lines are all different, apparently.
