Newcastle new sponsers?

Anything reliable to back-up the £10m per year that dokko mentioned the Virgin deal was worth? £10m seemed ott to me. £8m seems much more realistic for a club of Newcastle's size and stature.

Nope, just quotes from Llambias, and anything he comes out with is barely credible.

DL wanted £10m for stadium naming rights alone. Sunderland got £20m for invest in Africa, over two years but paid upfront. £10m was the NR deal, which Virgin extended and was widely reported in the local press as such and in London rags.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has overseen an uplift of £7.5million a year after thrashing out a £10million a year deal with Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Money after Virgin bought the previous sponsor, Northern Rock.

It was £10 million a year.

Can't imagine what you might know about football team sponsorship and each teams relative worth...how did you pluck £8 million out of thin air?

Ignorance is my guess, which is far a better guess than his. :p

The only reputable source I've seen that's mentioned £10m, claimed that it was up to £10m per year.

As for plucking £8m out of the air. It's based on what other clubs of similar size are bringing in. Spurs for example are getting up to £12.5m and not only are they a bigger name globally, their deal was signed on the back of them being in/challenging for a place in the CL.

Spurs had/have 2 shirt sponsors and the last I read they were getting £20 million a year.

Not sure how you can state they have a bigger name globally? Where's the evidence for that?

I've read a lot of people questioning how legit the £20m Sunderland deal is and I'm not sure how realistic a £10m stadium naming rights deal is. The value of naming rights for existing stadiums is nothing like new builds and it would be incredibly hard for Newcastle to attract anything like £10m on a new stadium anyway.

No, it was £12.5m. And I'm not looking to knock Newcastle but I think it's fair to say that globally, Spurs are more recognisable than Newcastle.

edit: I've just had a look at Newcastle's last set of published accounts and their total commercial revenue (and catering revenue which I've not seen included before) was £15.8m. So assuming Virgin were paying £10m per year, that means Newcastle only made £5.8m from their kit manufacturing deal, all their secondary sponsors and catering revenue which seems slightly unbalanced to me.

Look at it on the bright side Toon fans, at least the Sunderland supporters will be bankrolling your team next year!

Ah yeah I see it now. :(

I thought it said they were renaming St James' Park, like someone said good PR I suppose I bet most Newcastle fans hated calling it the Sports Direct Arena.
