Newcastle takeover???

Kieran Maguire just done a brilliant podcast with the Chronicle of all places.

In short takeover will go through and has no doubt Saudi's will be bidding on the TV rights.

Quiet is good!!!!

Good chance it will get announced pretty soon papers seem to be running out of stories and getting so much flack for repeating BS and even fighting among themselves pretty funny to watch!!

Not sure if it true but a lot press reports in Saudi saying the deal is done and approved.

One report from the Government news channel.

Deal approved by the PL according to Forbes' Middle Eastern branch: https://www.forbesmiddleeast.com/money/investing/saudi-bid-for-newcastle-united-approved
Hopefully it will be confirmed in the next few days,I know lots a people disagree but in a time when very little is expected to be spent in the near future due to the impact of Covid19, Newcastle splashing some cash might be good for the premier league and help some of the clubs suffering from a cash shortages, and in a selfish sense i can wait for Newcastle to just be able to compete again and not have an owner that will to the bare minimum to finish 17th

I can add Newcastle to my hate list then if they in any way start to become another Man City who are everything that is wrong with football.

Shame as I had respect for them before.

Splash some cash? Ffp says no.

Currently splash some cash to Newcastle fans is anything over £40m and considering Newcastle made a profit in the financial years stipulated by the premier league, we have a lot of room to play with so FFP says yes ;):p, and remember **** direct only pay £1m per year for all sponsorship in the stadium so there is a lot of money to boost up that transfer fund when we get proper sponsors

Youd have to spend an absolute bucket load on that side. I can only think of a few players that are half decent

With regards to FFP check out Kieran Maguire podcast he did with the Chronicle.

He basically said we can spend big for the next 3 years without getting into to much trouble because of the lack of spending in pervious years if the new owners want to.

You can make total losses of £105m across 3 seasons for the PL and around £30m if you qualify for Europe. I'm not sure if Newcastle's accounts for last season have been released but in the 17/18 season you made a £18.6m profit and a £41.3m loss in 16/17.

If we assume similar profits to the 17/18 season for last season and breaking even this season (given the current situation and having to repay broadcasters it's possible that you'll make a loss), that would mean Newcastle could afford to lose around £100-120m next season and still meet the PL's FFP but if they plan to qualify for Europe then those losses would need to come down to around £50m. Using the 17/18 accounts as a starting point (as there's no details of this and last seasons), if games are played behind closed doors for all of next season then without spending a penny more, they'd already be facing a loss of around £5m.

Exactly how much Newcastle could spend is impossible to say as a £50m loss doesn't mean spending an extra £50m on players - fees are spread over the life of a players contract and of course there's wages to consider too. Wages will be the big issue for Newcastle because you could spend £200m on transfers and it may only cost the club £50m per season from an accounting point of view but if you've signed 5 players with that then wages could be another £40-50m.

Those repayments have to be factored into the next year's figures aswell. They have to get these first initial transfers absolutely spot on like we did.

They won't relax FFP...well they might a bit considering but not to the level to rebuild a team which lets face it...Newcastle need.

What positions do NUFC fans think need reinforcing?

As a Newcastle fan I'm not expecting / hoping for instant mass spending on players.

I would prefer investment into the training grounds / youth recruitment and development, with a half decent manager with a blueprint that develops the squad over 2-3 years.

we need attacking impotus at the moment, our keeper + back line can keep us in games - but we lack much attacking threat

Kind of. It doesn't matter what the payment terms are, you can pay 100% of the fee upfront or you can pay it over 20 years, the way you record a transfer fee on the accounts doesn't change. From an accounting point of view buying a player isn't an expense - you've bought something that has a value and it's the drop in value that's recorded as an expense. With football it's easy to measure the drop in value as at the end of a players contract he's worth nothing. So if you buy a player for £40m and give him a 4 year contract he costs the club £10m per season - very simply the fee divided by the length of the contract. So after 2 years the player is now only worth £20m on the accounts - if he now signs a new 4 year contract then that £20m is now spread over another 4 years, costing the club just £5m per season now. After another 2 years he's now worth £10m and signs another 4 year deal, he's now only costing the club £2.5m per season.

So yes, fees paid this summer will still be an expense next year (or until they leave the club) however exactly how much they effect the accounts will depend on their contract situation - while they're on the original contract they'll cost the club the same as day 1 but if they extend their contracts then the cost will drop.

yes maybe these people are fine wasting money and turning the standium 90degrees so it can be improved in capacity.
its the only way without moving it.
