Newcastle takeover???

Also just a heads up from Ben Jacobs from BeIN check below. He also went on to say that the deal won't be stopped unless there is clear proof that the Government started BeoutQ. Check him out on twitter.

Just a bit of context on the @WTO report on beoutQ. The remit was to "rule on Saudi Arabia’s alleged failure to provide adequate protection of intellectual property rights.”
That's not quite the same as ruling on whether the Saudi government are/were directly behind beoutQ.

I’m hoping it’s a good sign that Newcastle’s accounts have been published on time(if not early) for the first time since Ashley has been at the club, another profit made and no doubt straight into Ashley’s pocket.

Well all my confidence has gone, I think it’s abundantly clear that the PL are desperate to block this. Virus or no virus, we are now into week 8 since the PL first sat down to consider this and we’re no nearer. The time being taken is likely to revolve around legal conferences as to how the PL will defend an inevitable lawsuit.

If the WTO report shows a clear link between the Saudi government and beoutQ (and all that is, is further confirmation of what's been known for years) then they absolutely should block the deal. Put yourself in the PL's shoes - would you approve the ownership of a state that's ripped off your content for years?

Despite all that, unless the PL's argument is bullet proof then it'll be approved. I can't see them having the stomach for any legal challenge that might follow, not least at a time when they're potentially facing legal cases from broadcasters, clubs that have been relegated and possibly even clubs that have been denied promotion.

It would be a good way to stop that piracy immediately though? The Saudi's would want their cut of the middle east broadcast rights and wouldn't want it pirated, despite their frosty relationship with Bein and their owners.

I do suspect though, was it's taken so long you are correct, they're planning their defence when they ultimately reject it.

That would require the Saudi's to admit to the link. As yet they've not only denied that the state has any involvement but also denied that beoutQ is even based in Saudi Arabia. Their cut of any TV contract (currently worth sub £10m per season per club) won't motivate them to own up to and shut down the piracy, if it proves to be the difference between the takeover getting the green light or not, could be a big enough motivation though. Maybe it's the easiest and safest compromise for all. I've seen it reported that beIN's ultimate goal is to have the piracy issue wiped out - they get their wish, the PL no longer have to face a difficult situation and the Saudi's get their takeover.

Thing I can’t understand, George Caulkin(who is Amanda Staveleys go to guy) has said Both sides have had positive tip offs & guidance a few times from the premier league and he’s not the type of person to release something if it’s not true, and I personally know Steve Wraith who is the person that brought Amanda to the game which kicked all this off, which is where all my confidence came from, that confidence is massively falling away.

The legal battle that is sure to commence if rejected should be fun to watch, as it would be a huge loss of face to the Saudis and i'm not sure they'd want that in regards geo-politics, one thing I don’t understand is they would have anticipated all this would come and you would have though the takeover would have been watertight as it’s a massive embarrassment on the world stage to be rejected.
On another note.
This appeared this morning which suggests the PIF is a separate legal entity from the Saudi government, I don’t see how, but the guy is a lawyer

Not that I want something like this to happen, it wouldn’t surprise me that if they get the heads up that they are going to get knocked back, they then put pressure on the government to get it pushed through, saying “you’re happy to take all our other investments in your country but we’re not good enough to buy one of your football clubs, get it sorted or we take our business elsewhere”.

The thing that’s really ******* me off in all of this, is Mike Ashley has totally washed his hands of the club and is no longer interested, we are the only club that haven’t communicated with fans about what is happening with season ticket holders refunds for the remaining games, and every time the press ask about it they are told they have no plans at the minute.
If this does get knocked back and ends up in a legal battle, get your money on Newcastle getting relegated as there is no decision making at the club at the moment and it’s in disarray and Ashley won’t authorise anything that comes out of his pocket.

government loves to train people in the art of democracy
Since 2015, 43 Saudi cadet officers have been trained at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, the RAF College in Cranwell and the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, according to the results of a Freedom of Information request published by the Guardian's Ben Quinn.11 Apr 2019

we can train their officers who no doubt will do evil things with this training against their own people etc.

but you can't buy a football club here. lol

also 2019

The UK government has been forced to apologise after breaking a court ruling banning it from granting licences to export weapons and other military equipment to Saudi Arabia.

oops

The sports direct logo on the background of Newcastles photo today was lovely.
You think your being funny and taking the **** out of us but currently that’s all Newcastle United are, the global advertising arm of **** Direct, and that’s why we so badly want this takeover to be signed off.

Considering the pittance he paid for advertising pitch side compared to the going rate for other companies I agree.

£1.113m for all advertising in and around SJP and the training ground, that’s up from £385k in 2018 and ZERO before 2017. we earn less now from sponsorship and advertising than we did the day he took over.

The Premier League are rightfully going through the new owners with a fine tooth comb, but I argue that this parasite isn’t fit and proper to own a football club, the test should be carried out periodically on current owners.
