Another popular beer of that time became a custom of its own success.Yup.
It's made in Yorkshire now I think, I used to enjoy the odd bottle but after they moved the brewery I stopped, not drank the stuff in a very long time.
Funnily enough I rarely see it stocked locally in a few places, and while I'm from Newcastle I live Durham way currently.
Newquay Steam Beer. Used to come in a pint bottle with a flip top lid like Grolsch & I used to love it & then it disappeared.
The story I was told (and I stand to be corrected) was that the original plant (presumably in or near Newquay) was unable to keep up with the demand so they opened a new plant in Truro & as they were using different water, it just didn’t taste as good & demand fell off a cliff.
Sounds a bit improbable as I type but I’ll put it out there anyway
Edit: a quick google search reveals that it was originally brewed in Redruth & the brand was sold to Whitbread who started producing it in cans and ditched the swing top bottles & that’s why its popularity faded and it was subsequently dropped.
