Newcastle Upon Tyne Pubs

Yup.

It's made in Yorkshire now I think, I used to enjoy the odd bottle but after they moved the brewery I stopped, not drank the stuff in a very long time.

Funnily enough I rarely see it stocked locally in a few places, and while I'm from Newcastle I live Durham way currently.
Another popular beer of that time became a custom of its own success.

Newquay Steam Beer. Used to come in a pint bottle with a flip top lid like Grolsch & I used to love it & then it disappeared.

The story I was told (and I stand to be corrected) was that the original plant (presumably in or near Newquay) was unable to keep up with the demand so they opened a new plant in Truro & as they were using different water, it just didn’t taste as good & demand fell off a cliff.

Sounds a bit improbable as I type but I’ll put it out there anyway ;-)

Edit: a quick google search reveals that it was originally brewed in Redruth & the brand was sold to Whitbread who started producing it in cans and ditched the swing top bottles & that’s why its popularity faded and it was subsequently dropped.

they could alter the water so its chemically the same.

most of these companies are probably ran by people who don't use the products and don't understand the people who do.

almost everything seems to have no taste these days anyway though...

I'm losing aste buds as I get older or everything just uses the most basic cheap ingredients as possible, crappy artificial flavours etc.

all fruit and veg seems to have the taste breeded out to give more yield...

look at supermarket pizzas there all terrible now, what happened? even the "finest/best" ranges are basically what was once considered normal.

Agreed on this tbh. I remember how good fruit used to taste. Apples and plums in particular.
