Hi im a boro fan and don't wanna **** on your chips but just have a little query.

Right this guy that bought your club is well known for being a bit of a recluse, he has no links to Newcastle that i could find and was just wondering why hes bought the club ? Is the land that St James is on worth that much ? Do you think Big Fat Sam is the right man for the job or will he just play is long ball game ? Do you think the managers job is cursed ? You've had some good managers in the past who've not been able to break it.

These are serious questions i hope you guys do well next season obviously you won't beat us but you could never hope to ever again could ya :p

No swearing

Im no mag fan, but you're the pot calling the kettle mate, you're just jealous he didnt buy you, probably because the land the riverside sits on isnt worth anything, like the rest of middlesbro!

Well done on signing Geremi. Although a word of warning he can be one of the most frustrating players I've seen. When we had him his form at home was outstanding for us but the next week he'd put in the most inept performance away from home. He probably falls in a similar mould to Dyer, in that he can be a world beater one week then a utter shambles the next. Who knows, maybe with age he might have changed.

Also, where do you expect him to play? I would have thought Milner would be your right-sided midfielder does that mean he'll be playing right-back?

Ash to splash the cash

TOON tycoon Mike Ashley is ready to flex his financial muscle in the transfer market in order to make a statement as owner that will rock the world of football.

The billionaire owner will continue to keep a low profile at the club and allow deputy chairman Chris Mort to run the show at St James’ Park, with chairman Freddy Shepherd still unwell.

Mort reveals his hopes and dreams today to the Chronicle – but another source close to Ashley admitted that, while United’s haul of four signings so far this summer is impressive, there will be more to come.

And that will possibly include the arrival of a big-name player that will stun the soccer world.

Ashley and his board will never go public on exactly how much they have in the transfer spending pot because it makes no sense from a business or football point of view.

But a quick glance at Ashley’s successful move up the business ladder underlines the fact that the new United supremo thinks big.

The source told the Chronicle: “When you look at the incoming and outgoing transfers so far this summer, Mike has only really spent £1.5m because Geremi and Mark Viduka came in on free transfers and Joey Barton and David Rozehnal’s arrivals have been helped by Scott Parker’s £7million sale to West Ham, so from a business point of view, that’s good business.

“We know that Big Sam would like two left-backs and a centre- half too, and he will listen to any other possible signings that the manager would like.

“The transfer deadline is not until the end of August and the feeling here is United could be about to pull out all the shots to land a big one.”

Meanwhile, with United’s current crop of players in Austria at a boot camp, new deputy chairman Mort revealed how he had been working closely with Allardyce to ensure the squad are in good shape to challenge in the Premiership next term.

In an exclusive first interview Mort told the Chronicle today: “Clearly the new season is fast approaching so we have to be comfortable where we are going and are working closely with Sam to make sure we have a squad that is capable of competing.

“I have been doing this now for just over a week, but before that time we were asked to approve the signings of Joey Barton and Mark Viduka, so it is already investment from our perspective.

“We are comfortable investing on the playing side. But we would be crazy to start talking about the numbers we intend to invest in.

“Sam is clearly going to run the playing side, but he and I are already talking closely about where we might strengthen the team.

“He is looking at every aspect of the playing squad and also the support staff.

“He and I are talking on a very regular basis, most days we talk.”

However, top London lawyer Mort emphasised he would not interfere with Big Sam when it comes to the footballing side of the club.

He added: “Sam is going to take the lead. He is well known in football for having a very good sense of who is out there and their capabilities.

“He looks at football in a very analytical way. He is going to lead the charge in all that and I am going to be in an approval role.

“I am not going to be sending him videos of players I want. He is quite obviously way ahead of me in that and that is clearly his strength and what he is here to do.”

Meanwhile, Mort also took a realistic line on the expectations on Allardyce today after former manager Glenn Roeder heaped pressure on Big Sam by insisting fans would be angry by his plea to remain patient.

He went on: “I wouldn’t want to get drawn on picking league positions we are aiming for.

“We have got a new manager and are perfectly happy with the choice of manager.

“It would be unfair on him to say this is where we will be next season or the season after.”

It makes a change having people on the board who seem level headed, and not trying to run the football side of things. I wonder who this 'big' signing could be? I can't think of any reasons why a world class player would want to come to NUFC when we have no European football this year. Except to line his pockets. Is that the sort of player we need at the moment? Of course, it would be nice to see the likes of Kaka (lol :) ), but I think in this transitional period we need players willing to fight for points ( not that sort of fighting, Joey B ;) ).

Id be happy to see Wayne Bridge coming in... That would be a good signing.. maybe not so big.

I cant think of any "big" signings that would want to come with no european football..

And in which area... if we get a big signing for the defence then great...

you cant get much better than Owen and Martins for strikers imo...

As for the wings though that could be an issue with Duff out for ages it seems and Solano being over the hill. Milner cant do it all alone i guess

would prefer to keep gibson and the bit of cash we have each season than get some tycoon whos just in it for the money, Gibson is a true football fan and id rather see clubs run by true fans than by businessmen in it for a buck or two

@lemonkettaz :)

I totally agree with Wayne Bridge. He is exactly the sort of player we need. Not a 'world class superstar', but a proven international and dependable player. If not him another left back is definately needed.

I also agree that we need a couple of wingers, we don't really seem to have that much there at the moment. Charlie Zog and Milner have great potential, and Milner was outstanding last season. Apart from his long term injury, is Damien Duff actually any good? I thought he was rubbish last season, and young Charles just didn't live up to any of the promise he had shown the previous season. Solano is a bit past it now, so I think another right winger is a must, but do we stick with what we have on the left?

On the stikers front, superb if Oba and Micheal stay. Our front line is as strong as any in the Premier League. If they stay.

Ah well, we'll see what surprises Sam has up his sleeves. The future looks interesting to say the least! :)

We’re back again with more EXCLUSIVE pictures from our Austrian reporters Lucas and Stefan. The Magpies are nearing the end of their one week training camp in Austria where the players and staff are preparing for the new season and today we also bring you some exclusive news as well as these great pictures.

Our reporters have told us the following bits of information:

Allardyce has constantly been on his phone.
One of the staff members said that Sam is closing down on two imminent signings.
Luque is not at the training camp at the moment because he’s getting married in Mallorca.
Five new signings expected. Things are going to hot up when they return to Tyneside.
Sam is apparently gone. Reporters haven’t seen him since Saturday. Possibly sorting out these imminent transfers.
Squad is possibly playing a training match against Hertha Berlin today who have also arrived at the resort for a pre-season camp.
Dyer and Barton getting on really well. Enjoying a game of chess between training sessions.
It hasn’t been just the players out on the pitch. The staff have also played a match or two against each other with Steve Harper doing the referee’s job

and iv hared that newcastle chirman wants raul and deco

I've heard that the new owner does want to make one world-class signing as a statement of intent. However, Sam is in charge of purchases and Mort and Ashley understand that (BTW Shepherd is still our Chairman, but he's not involved in any of this) he currently has different priorities in building a team.

Word is that Deco was offered to us and he does want to play in the EPL, but we've put any negotiations on ice whilst we sort out more pressing purchases.

Taylor for England
:)

Steve McClaren admits Steven Taylor is edging closer towards a call-up to the England squad.

The Newcastle United defender impressed for the Under 21s in the recent European Championship in Holland.

He will have his progress monitored next season by senior coach McClaren, who feels Taylor has the attributes to be involved in his plans.

"Steven Taylor is a player I have been watching for some time now and I will be watching again to see how he progresses next season," McClaren told the Evening Chronicle.

"He has been an important member of the England Under 21 setup for some time now and he was an outstanding captain when Nigel Reo-Coker went off.

"Steven Taylor displays the sort of spirit I want from all the England sides - from the Under 15s right through to the senior squad.

"And if he maintains the sort of form he has shown lately then he should be knocking on the door of the full England team."

With Liverpool centre-half Jamie Carragher considering retirement from the international scene, a defensive spot could be up for grabs in McClaren's squad next season.

Steven Taylor can be a worldclass defender if he carries on the way he has progressed so far. He has years left for him to get better and already he shows how commanding he can be in the centre.

Definitely the future for England

watching him reminds me of carragher, same spirit and commitment, mclaren will probably leave him out the squad, because hes a world class idiot.

Newcastle Raided by police in connection with corruption in football!

Just breaking on Sky Sports News!!

Christ, not what we need, bet it's Fat Fred!

Paul

EDIT: Apparently it's nothing to do with the Lord Stevens Bungs enquiry. What has Fat Fred been up to I wonder. No decent players will want to join now, depending what the allegations are. I hate being a Toon fan, just as things start to look good something always has to happen to drag us through the dirt.
