Newcastle

Night life is second to none, A lot of people from Sunderland,Durham etc head to Newcastle for the weekend and the metro for shopping. As it's pretty dire in Sunderland for both. Durham can be a good night out but is full of uni students and isn't that big really. Lovely place to visit for the day though!

The coast in places is great in the summer (not sure how long you are staying) I find people tend to play up on the Geordie/Mackem thing much more than you will see in person. Been out in Newcastle many many times and never had any bother (Same can't be said for Sunderland :/ ). Give the big market a miss and you can't go wrong. Hope you enjoy the move :)
 
I don't think we have had one for years if you are from down south :p

Anything above 10c is summer for us though, You know that :D

I have seen thick pea soup fog here, and still people on the beach making sandcastles etc. Seriously, we went there for a walk, and you could barely see 10m away. There were still people swimming!

If you meant Newcastle Under Lyme i'd be able to help. But not spent much time in the geordie Newcastle. Though did live in South Shields for a month(it was horrible)
 
I'm quite fond of the Newcastle area, having lived up there while attending an engineering course at South Tyneside College between January and Augusat. I'd quite frequently travel into Newcastle, as well as having fairly regular nights out in Shields itself, and not once did I run into trouble. I'll be going back next March, for an entire year this time, and when I qualify in late 2013, I'd give serious thought to moving up there permanently.

I've lived in London and Newcastle. IMHO Newcastle >>>>> London. Seriously, It's my favourite city in the whole of the UK. Friendly people, easy and quick to get around, cost of living isn't high at all = value for money. Near the coast as well - Summers are great as you can just pop down to the beach!

The problem is, the jobs dictate where I go, too! Trying to find a London-equivalent job in Newcastle, is not easy at all!
 
Firstly, you will love stotties. The best ones (and indeed the proper ones) are found at greggs. Thes are the best bread for making egg sarnies.
Secondly, find a dicksons pork shop, and buy a saveloy dip. These are saveloy sausages, in a bun, dipped in the gravy, with peas pudding, stuffing and mustard. They will ask you if you want it dipped. The answer to this is YES.

If you aren't too old (<25) then you should go to the Bigg Market, its a life experience. First time I went we were in a club that had a giant spinning dick that decided the drinks offers (e.g. triple vodka £2), sexy lasses got to come and spin it.

You will have no problems.

The quayside is a nice area with nice properties and within stumbling distance of some of Newcastle's best bars, clubs and restaurants. Lovely coastline is 10 or so miles away as is fantastic scenery in rural Northumberland.
