Old card died and Im currently running a pants 6500 LE or something!

Which card(s) should I go for next, I can SLi but is it worth it? I wouldnt want to spend more than £300 anyway. I have always assumed x1900 512, but which? There are several. Is 625mhz going to be much worse than 650mhz or are these negligible speeds that dont really warrant the extra ~£50? Would prefer something a little future proof too :)

I would definitely advise the purchase of the Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900XT 512MB card. With prices having come down, you cannot get better bang per buck from a topend card.
Price: £179.95 (£211.44 Including VAT at 17.5%) :D :)

That is a cracking price for a top end card,But its becoming old in the tooth now IMO.

The new ATI card is on the horizon and the 7950 GX2 is much faster than the x1900xt

For one its possible he has a mobo that won't even support it running in sli mode. He'd be better of with a HIS x1900, no compatability problems with the above, and more than likely its not gonna have to be rma'd inside a month like so many of the 7900 series.

How on earth is the X1900 becoming "old tooth"? I guess the 7900GTX is ancient since the X1900XT at £211 gives you equal or better performance when compared to a 7900GTX for £60 less, not to mention that the image quality is currently far superior on ATI graphics cards.

Obviously you didn't read his post either, as I can't comprehend why you would suggest a 7950GX2 when it's almost a hundred quid over budget.

As for the X1950, it's going to be a good buy, and according to Gibbo a single one will offer performance close to that of the 7950GX2 for the cost of a 7900GTX, but I would say that the X1900XT is still a great option if the OP wants to save £60 and not have to wait until the middle of next month.

I'd go for the x1900xt as I don't think you'll need much more between now and next summer. By then you could see what DX10 does to the gaming industry to decide on the next purchase.

Hi guys,

thanks for the advice. I'm using a DFI expert so I dont think compatability will be much of an issue. I could wait until next month, how are the 1950's going to be priced?

In that case I would wait for those. Gibbo said that the X1950XT is going to cost about £275, and that you'd be getting nearly 7950GX2 performance for the price of a 7900GTX. He also just said in another thread that with the new cooler, they run really quiet and cool.

I never said that the 7900 GTX wasn't showing its age either. In fact I never mentioned the 7900 GTX

I said try to stretch to a 7950 GX2,He has a budget of 300 hence the term "stretch" and 7950's can be add for 354 inc.

Hmm missed the Vat and the fact that they will only have 256mb ram on that model ;)

Is it?

HI there

X1950 XTX 512MB GDDR4 will be £325 - £375 +VAT
X1950 XT 256MB GDDR4 will be approx £225 - £275 +VAT

;)

X1950 XTX 512MB GDDR4 will be £325 - £375 +VAT
X1950 XT 256MB GDDR4 will be approx £225 - £275 +VAT

Hmmm... I've never bought the very latest hardware yet and I think I'll stick to that as I can't justify spending top dollar just because it's just out. I think I'll be going for

as suggested and upgrade at the end of the year/new year. I'm sure my opty @ 3ghz would hold it back anyhow, right?

The ram is not that big of a deal is it.

And stop it with the damn ;) smiley all the time.

It says 225-275+vat so if the card comes in at 225 ex vat it's still only going to be around £265

It's all specualation anyway.

Right now I'd go for the X1900XT for £211 as that's the best bang for your money right now.

Is that gonna be faster at high resolutuions than a 7950 GX2?

some how I dont think so.

and one of them can be had for 354 in vat.

I know what i would wnat in my machine playing at high res.

X1900XT for £211 problem sorted. Unless you game at 1600X1200 and above then a 7950GX2 is a complete and utter waste of money.

Add to that the fact its (7950GX2) roughly £150 more expensive then the choice becomes obvious.

With my conroe I dont think a x1900 would get 18,546 3d marks in 05.

These chips really unlock the power of the 7950 GX2 I would'nt want to be held back with a x1900 xt.

Thats why the likes of devious and maddness ,here on these very forums upgraded!

If the new gen ati the x1950 gets this score (as I can't see it beating it) it becomes can an expensive card at 375 not including vat.

What bearing does that have on this thread?

The op has stated he does not wish to pay more than £300 for a graphics card. This rules out the 7950GX2 as a contender.

For £211 the connect 3D X1900XT cannot be beaten . . period.
