Next England Manager? Next England Captain?

Paper this morning saying that Wenger happy to talk to the FA about the job.

Would be a nice way for him to top up his bank account while easing into retirement, would also give him a way out of Arsenal that he can spin as not being booted out for failing to win or look like winning beyond christmas the league in about 100 years.

Not sure he'd be any good he has consistently failed in recent times to get the best out of a slightly lesser squad and has been shown to be pretty stubborn about some obvious things ie getting a defensive midfilder and top notch striker in.

Southgate Rejects Role

Bad times when even SouthGate who hasn't really got a reputation to tarnish turns down the role, you would have thought he would love this job.

Talks of Bruce and Allardyce being offered the role, neither inspire me, Sam will just play route 1 with Andy Carroll?

Gary Neville looks to leave his role so can't see him taking it.

Papers speculating Blanc??

When Ranieri is finished with Leicester it should go to him. He's shown he can adapt and that's exactly what an England manager has to do but the last couple of managers failed to do that.

Despite the miracle at Leicester I'm not entirely sure Ranieri is the answer. His international tenure with Greece hardly fills you with confidence.

He couldn't adapt to Greece. :p

It needs to be a strong character, an excellent man manager, not a coach, someone who will sort out the mental side of the team.

The problem is there are few man managers who are 'yes men', something the FA always wants in a manager, which is why the likes of Clough and Redknapp didn't and won't manage the national team.

Perhaps Ranieri could be that man - he's certainly got the players behind him at Leicester.

I'd bet Benitez would have been among the favourites had he not already committed his immediate future to Newcastle. Likewise Mourinho, assuming what he's said in the past still rings true.

Can we have a poll? Not sure who all the contenders are though... Allardyce, Raneiri, Hoddle, Redknapp, Shearer, Wenger...

Allardyce would be my choice.

Does it matter who is the manager or captain? The whole English Football setup is wrong. Head to toe purge is needed. Right now would any English player make it into a world 11?
Technically English players just look poor compared to other nations.

I think it's been said before, that you don't always need a world 11 to do better than we have. You need the time, effort and enthusiasm.
Imo desire has always been lacking from us, we didn't want to win against Slovakia or Iceland.

Agree with this. Get rid of the majority of the squad and replace them with people who want to be there. Put out a bloody championship squad if needs be.

Hoddle hasn't been relevant for years and Redknapp talks the talk but regularly fails to walk the walk. Neither are the type of manager England need going forward.
