If the battery was any larger they'd fit it in both.

It would be stupid to make one thicker than the other.

It's not totally daft. They could have been desperate to hit a certain price point for the 16GB model and the only way to do it was to trim $5 of the battery.

But, I expect the same size battery.

It's a clever way to encourage the uptake of the larger capacity (read: more expensive) version of the device.

I'm not saying it's even likely, but I just want to know as I am definitely not buying a new phone with a tiny 2300mAh battery.

Tiny?

HTC One - 2300mAh
Samsung GS4 - 2600mAh
Motorola Moto X - 2200mAh

Only the Sony Z1 comes in at substantially more 3000mAh.

G2 3000 mAh.

I would have loved N5 to have 3000 mAh as the G2's battery is phenomenal but what the hell I need more storage and pure Android :p

That is a bigger phone at 5.2 inches.

To be fair the Z1 is also a much bigger phone with a lot more bezel.

Z1 is much bigger, G2 if you compare is only marginally bigger with a bigger screen.

N5: 137.9 x 69.2 x 8.6 mm
G2: 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9 mm

The bezel is actually smaller on the G2. But tbh I charge my phone every night anyway, G2 is great but 2300 mAh is not a deal breaker for me personally.
