*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Thanks Mate I came across the thread last night and did just that spend a good 2 hours trying the plastic strip trick but it didn't work.

I went to a local phone shop who managed to sort out the issue for £10!

I got my N5 working again and I'm over the moon!

On the subject of stock android nothing is as fast and fluid as stock android.

Not even with the latest chipset and 3Gb ram can a phone be as fast and fluid as stock Android and the LG G3 is case in point. I couldn't stand the stutters and lag of the LG UI and the phone went back today.

Glad you got it sorted, it is a very frustrating problem to have!

On the subject of stock Android vs. skins, you're mostly right but I think Sense competes pretty well. My M8 flies most of the time. I was thinking of picking up a G3 but the regular reports of lag and bad performance put me off. It's really not acceptable to sell a flagship device that lags all over the place. People may as well just get a £100 Moto G....

Sweet I wonder if it improves battery further I'm actually getting better life on Lollipop than any custom KitKat rom.

My Preview 2 battery life is terrible, with just 1.5h of screen on it's at 50%. It's been a while since I've used KK on an N5 but I don't remember it being quite this bad. Funny how all the fuss about "Project Volta" has totally subsided. I haven't seen Google mention it anywhere since I/O.

No point blaming a preview and project volta, it's not supposed to be good, plus as reports have shown the misc section in battery stats was a Wifi bug draining battery which has no been fixed for the release.

I managed to get over 2hrs SOT yesterday no wifi just looking at web pages, twitter and other social stuff's and still being over 75% once i had wifi on it started dropping much quicker.

With respect, I can blame the Preview. If they're releasing a version that supposedly focuses on better battery life and early versions don't have better battery life then that's a flaw. I understand it's non-final code but I'd expect to see at least some improvement without show-stopping drain bugs. So far I haven't seen any.

I guess what I'm saying is that it seems they've given up on Volta and decided just to fix the bugs instead, which wasn't the case for previous "projects" in earlier versions. Hopefully we'll see the final release soon and some improvements.

You didn't read the ToS then i guess.

4.7 The Preview is in development, and your testing and feedback are an important part of the development process. By using the Preview, you acknowledge that implementation of some features are still under development and that you should not rely on the Preview having the full functionality of a stable release. You agree not to publicly distribute or ship any application using this Preview as this Preview will no longer be supported after the official Android SDK is released.

It's exactly that a preview, designed for developers to use to get an idea on how to make app's if you use it and it's got poor battery that's because it has a bug, which was reported and is now fixed.

Yes, I know what a Preview is and I understand what non-final code is  You're not getting what I'm saying.

When Project Volta was announced, I was pretty excited to hear that Google was focusing on improving battery life in the same way they had focused on improving UI speed and memory usage. Both of these 'projects' had been well received and contributed a lot to Android. However, Volta seems to have contributed little so far. Given the lack of gains that people are seeing and the total silence from Google on Volta I'm worried that they're just fixing bugs rather than improving overall battery life. They made a big song and dance about Butter and Svelte but we've had nothing about Volta since I/O.

Only time will tell, and hopefully we'll have final images to test soon.

I hope it will be in the final build, it probably was in the preview, but as the wifi bug drained so much battery it probably never become apparent.

a few Devs have synced from aosp and built 5.0 from the source uploaded, i'm going to give it a flash and see if it works any better.

My GF got a full refund last month has they had no stock left of black 32gb model. I would just try for that maybe and get something new.

Yeah, got my eye on Sony Z3. Just got in touch with customer support and gave them a piece of my mind (they completely agreed with me, given my situation) and they are "escalating" my case.

I need a phone!

Tell me about it! I had phone envy for 8 hours. It was tough going that's for sure.

Cheers Mate :) I agree after stock Android, Sense competes well however I think that the Sony UI is also up there but needs to be updated graphically but it's fairly light and close to stock.

Thank god you didn't buy the LG G3 out of all the flagship phones of 2014 it's easily the worst performing one, so slow and a constant lagfest.

I was very disappointed by the phone plus it's slightly too big, LG did well to fit a 5.5" screen in the phone but it's still a little difficult to use with one hand.

I really wished that Moto released the Moto Maxx in European markets and not in Brazil and in Mexico.
