*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Someone help me. My g/f I bought a Nexus 5 and she's asked me to "make it like her iphone". lol
Wait! I know, I know... ridiculous but, if I do this one thing for her she'll be happy. So, how do I make the notification screen be like an iphone? So basically you turn the iphone on and instantly you have like a black notification area with all your mails and alerts all on one page type thing, rather than having to pull down the notification area from the top like with normal android.

That's all because of 1 setting in an xml file when they compile their app, silly devs.

As above.

Also, install Espier Launcher and she'll be amazed at how you transformed her phone ;)

Has this update fixed the yellow tint on the screen?
My first 310 batch had bad GPS issues but perfect screen with bright white whites!
2nd phone has better build quality with no rattles, but a yellow tint to the screen. Bit like comparing a new sheet of A4 to the yellow tinge you get on an old book.
3rd phone had even yellower screen and some build imperfections. Both 2nd and 3rd were batch 311

Does anyone else have the yellow tint/more warmer screen. Compared to my iPhone 4 however (that looks really blue and cold) most accurate screen I have seen is the first N5 and mates HTC ONE.

Also as a side question. Even though I turned off auto brightness and set it to full. The screen does seem to turn brighter and darker now n then!? Is this normal? Does it still dim or brighten on its own even when auto has been turned off?

No, just no.

Just watching some YouTube in bed and forgot the volume was on full. I woke the misses because it's so loud now.
Used to have it full blast just to hear it :D

its in testing stages so I wouldn't relay on it too much, some apps don't work with it enabled.

the good bits are that the apps start up quicker but personally I'm sticking with dalvik until it's out of testing stages and more "Warmed up" right now it's a new thing that will have problems and I don't feel like messing around too much with my daily phone.

WhatsApp was the only app having problems and it's now been fixed.

Everything works great.

You returned 3 phones for the above. You need to get out more :D

I took me longer to get the drivers on than it did to sideload it.

I found a bug in 4.4.1. If you go to Settings/Sound/Volumes and turn everything up to full and then turn your phone to landscape the sliders go down or visa versa, I had both happen. Seems to save its position in both portrait and landscape, tested the media volume by going into YouTube and playing a video.
Anyone else's phone do this also ?

If you bought a red car and everything worked apart from reverse didn't work... Would you take it back?
If the 2nd car you paid for arrived and everything worked but they sent you a pink car... Would you take it back.
If again the 3rd car was working but even brighter pink, would you take it back?

If there is a defect and features advertised don't work (no working gps) Then I'm within my rights to return. Also if the colours that should be white are all discoloured and yellow then that is good enough reason too. Surely this has no relation to the amount of times I may venture outside!?

But kept my 2nd one anyways as Google has done well to sort out some of the current issues and glad they have sorted the speaker as it was quite low in volume. Slowly getting g used to the N5 (having been with Apple and it's for a long time) Just need to read into if it's worth rooting and what all that's about

I'm not sure what people are raving about. Yes, the camera is now faster, however at the loss of quality. Some of the low light shots actually look pretty bad.

Also, audio recording is broken. Take a look at the following. This was recorded with the audio from the TV speaker set quite low. You can hear the audio chopping in and out.

Maybe we're raving about the update because our phone's aren't broken?:p

Are you sure your finger wasn't covering up the mic?

Dude, you need to understand the purpose of an emoticon.

Couldn't work out if it was a joming smile or sarcastic smile, so explained and went into depth a bit more. Wasn't all aimed as a disgruntled response to the user, just been a frustrating few weeks with the device as wanted it to be right first time.

They did offer me a fourth but thought I'm best to see if this clears up or not as would still end up getting a phone from same batch.

Was also curious to see if anyone else noticed the warmth of the screen and off white colour when comparing to other displays!?

Apologies if it sounded over the top, was just an explanation and mini rant over product rather than a direct response. :0) <-------(Def a happy, am cool with it emote)

Nope, finger not covering the mic. Actually, that video you've posted clearly demonstrates the exact same issue during the first 3 seconds where the audio is low. The audio is chopping in and out - it's only when the audio ramps up does the recording improve. Go and try the experiment again but set your TV audio lower.

It's a known issue that many people probably aren't aware of yet. I think it's something to do with the noise cancellation implementation. On quiet background audio, the phone sees it as background noise and attempts to attenuate it. That might be good for phone calls, but on video you want everything recorded or it sounds warbled and choppy.
