*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

Hello chaps, just ordered this from overclockers. I'm a noob when it comes to android. Is there any advice you could give me that is essential, that's needed for this device.

if you want to use Custom ROM's it's best to unlock the bootloader and root straight away, even if you will use stock to begin with, because unlocking the bootloader wipes the device so you lose everything.

Therefore I always recommend everyone, even those adamant about stock do this, just in case they change their minds.

Plus a lot of decent apps need root access anyway.

Mine arrived today - really really impressed with it.

Is there any way to natively get phone alerts (missed calls/texts) to the new Nexus 7, or do it need a 3rd party app?

Thanks Yodel :(

You'll not get it until Tuesday then, unless they overload the driver to the point he decides not go to loads of drops and lie by pretending he's left a card instead.

If that happens you probably won't get it ever as you'll have to ring them and be on hold for hours in the queue of other people who've had to ring because they haven't got cards either.

You need a third party app, I'm using mighty text and it works perfectly.

This has happened on all 3 occasions companies have used Yodel to deliver it to me. I had to threaten them the last time with charges and such and told them NOT to give it to a driver and I would pick it up. 3 weeks it took for me to get my S3... THREE WEEKS!!!!

The warehouse for Yodel for this area is just dire. Really have no idea how they are still a business.

The Wugfresh is the easiest one to use by far, simply click the buttons in order. So unlock, root and thats it!

Can easily load new roms etc as well.

@Sonny. I take it the wugfresh is the way to go?

i've no idea, but biz kid seems to have already answered your question.

i don't have the nexus 7 fhd as of yet, it's still in canada with the wife.

usually people on xda make very simply toolkits which allow you to basically plug your nexus 7 into a pc and click a button, the toolkit then does everything for you.

very very simple to do once those program's are released, but since it is new, i dont know if there is one as of yet, i assume wugfresh is such a toolkit, usually there are a few.

i wont look into unlocking and rooting my device until it's in my possession because if i look now a newer and better toolkit may be released by the time i get my nexus 7 fhd so im waiting for mine to get here.

but usually there are step by step guides on xda as well, some people even make youtube tutorials too, so you can follow the video instead of the text.

I will certainly be rooting and unlocking as I want to use what's app on it. Plus file transfers between devices will be easier.
