*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

The battery is great. Had over 36 hours on mine, with near 8 hours screen time on first run. Mainly playing games, setting it all up, and watching breaking bad via my server and via Show Box whilst out and about tethering from my phone.

Thanks guys :) Time to make use of priority moments and go pick myself one up! I literally use the laptop for sofa surfing and think a tablet would be better due to

A) Battery life
B) Size
C) Portability

The high pixel count makes it much more appropriate. For forums I usually use Tapatalk and it's fine. Much better than having the laptop out whilst on the sofa. The battery life is very good even on stock kernel. Going to try out a few custom kernels and see how they fair in comparison.

Portability is great much better than my previous iPad 3, which was cumberstone to hold for long sessions. Going to take the Nexus out with me next week days on train journeys to the Midlands will see how it fairs as a portable device.

Good plan, I will be on the three one plan (hopefully when number is transferred) so I can tether and use the internet on it (that is the plan!)

I also moved from the ipad 3, giving it away as a hand me down!

Hi all. Just got this delivered today from Ocuk and a nice bag of haribo, great service as always. Just got it rooted now with the wugfresh toolkit. One thing I did have a problem with was the nexus driver wouldn't install in devices. I have windows 8 and it wouldn't let me install unsigned drivers, so I had to disable driver signature enforcement to get wugfresh to work properly. I hope it helps anyone else if they have the same problem.

I've just sent mine back, I had a standard iPad 3 and I love Android having an Android phone - but I cannot get used to the size.

The iPad is at the upper end of the size I want and a bit heavy so was looking to downsize, but the nexus 10 is too big, and the 7 i've found too small - would love an 8.5-9 inch version.

When I got the original Nexus 7, to replace my iPad 3, I, at first, struggled with the size change but after a week or so I didn't look back and prefer the form factor.

Got mine in the US, £182 for the 32GB version.

It's the best tablet I've ever used. The performance is very good, the screen is amazing, GPS locks fast, Wifi has great range, sound quality is great with the stereo speakers, battery life has been outstanding and the build quality is a massive improvement over the first Nexus 7 and it's lighter and thinner.

The only bad point I can think of is the camera could be better, but I rarely ever use the camera on tablets anyway.

Google/Asus have nailed it imo. :D

First device I've had where thermal throttling is not ruining the experience. Its quite a revelation.

Yep, even though the max clockspeed is lower compared to Snapdragon 600 devices it's able to maintain the clockspeeds so benchmark results are not doing it justice.

One thing though, according to wiki it's using faster memory but I think that's wrong. They claim the Nexus 7 is using DDR3L-1600 (12.8 GB/sec) vs "Dual-channel 533 MHz LPDDR3 (8.5 GB/sec)" on most snapdragon 600 devices.

How do you find the poetic case? Does it add much bulk on?

i received this in the post today - £11.50 including delivery on ebay

MiniSuit Classic Smart Case for Google Nexus 7 FHD (2nd Gen 2013) Black

i have some pic's uploading to dropbox and it's the best case i could find (better than poetic's imo).

having comparing it to my poetic case for gen 1 nexus 7, it's much better in terms of stability when using the fold up stand.

the fit is perfect, it also has the velcro fold back leather bit which holds the nexus 7 tight in place (no chance of it falling out the case).

imo this is the best case for the nexus 7 v2.

i compared all the pictures of a lot of cases in detail before deciding on this case, and it is spot on.

I've read that this thing has GPS built in. As its a none 3g model how do i go about storing maps and can i then use the GPS for navigation?

What players have currently enabled ac3 sound enabled. Just got a new Nexus but Bsplayer and MX Player have ac3 issue's, probably Dolby licence issues.
