*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

Ordered myself a Nexus 7 32 GB LTE today (plus a Data 0 sim from Ovivo). Looking at cases now but there seems to be way too much choice lol...

I'm not sure whether to get a case with a keyboard or just a case that doubles as a stand.

Which screen protector would be the best choice?

Any other accessories that I should be considering? I've already ordered a micro usb to usb adaptor to use a flash drive as additional storage (hoping that will work as well as the reviews say).

i ended up getting both! the keyboard case was only £20 posted from amazon down from £60 and got another case that is also a stand and rotates so u can have it sit in both variants for £5.89.

see my above post with links i looked at reviews for the keyboard case and they looked very good there are a few youtube videos too.

that torque app looks brilliant,do u need a bluetooh obd diagnostic sensor though?

I have permanent issues trying to play videos on the bbc website via the nexus 7 using chrome and of course same on my Galaxy s3 via chrome. It says "cannot play media. You do not have the correct version of flash player".

There are two flaws with this message:

1. I don't think chrome has any support for flash. So why doesn't HTML5 videos work instead?
2. Why is the BBC still trying to shove flash down our throat while allowing HTML5 videos to work flawlessly on iOS and Windows (tested on ipad 3 and surface 2 RT)

I hate having to dig to the bbc news and sports app just to watch the damn videos while browsing. I think it is a specific issue with the bbc website and not universal to the web. How do you guys cope?

have used SwiftKey on my last 2 android phones and now my nexus 7
great keyboard easy to use and set up, you can set it to look at your facebook n email to learn how you type and your most used words etc.
the more you use it the better it gets.

Going to have to look at that once my Nexus gets here. Delivery estimate is Jan 7th but I'm hoping for it to arrive sooner.

Anyone have the Belkin QODE Portable Keyboard Case For 7" Tablets? I'm tempted to get this (if flubit offer a good enough discount) but would like to know if it is actually worth buying.

Had this weird problem and was wondering if anyone can shed some light on it. Was watching video in Dice Player and all of a sudden the video freezes and out of nowhere the shutting down dialog box pops up, telling me the system is shutting down and sure enough a few seconds later my nexus just turns off. Totally confused, I turn it on again, resume watching the video and about 15min later it happens again. Battery was above 90% in both cases. This hasn't happened ever before, all software is up to date and all I was doing was watching a 720p mkv file.

It hasnt happened again but still wondering what caused it. Anyone experience anything similar? I have the 32gb Nexus 7 2013 with latest Android system update.

Got my nexus 7 now and have to say I'm really pleased with it the screen is great and the touch screen works brilliantly was worried it would be a little small but I think is a perfect size now I have it in hand makes the iPad my mum has feel cumbersome.
Are there any must have apps?
What difference is swiftkey over the standard keyboard that makes it worth buying? As the swipe on the standard keyboard seems very accurate.

There's a free trial. Download that and see the difference for yourself. The stock keyboard has flow / swipe type features now. I've not used it myself as I am too used to SwiftKey now.

Has anyone else noticed with the latest youtube app the image quality is really bad? The videos seem very pixelated and scaling doesn't work properly, especially in full screen mode.

Does anyone know of any way to fix this?

i ended up buying these two cases:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Poetic-Blue...=UTF8&qid=1388414152&sr=8-32&keywords=nexus+7

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FJ4YMXI/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers

might regret not getting a slim case, will see what they are like when they arrive.

also bought this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/MOFRED®-Micro-USB-The-Cable-Nexus/dp/B00E0Q6SHO/ref=pd_sim_computers_4

with the correct app it will allow me to read usb sticks and hdd's (aparently!!)

any other must haves?

I purchased for my wife the second link for a case which is used all the time.
The 3rd link which is the USB file up load cable is essential for getting files from flash sticks on to the Nexus.

Her 2012 model is used every day buy her.
A great tablet, I would have got my self one if there was a SD card slot !

How is Ovivo?
I am looking to move my wife who is with Giffgaff to Ovivo. The free phone package would be plenty for her.

My Nexus 7 arrived today (so did the Ovivo SIM, good timing), I'll try it out without wifi tomorrow and see how well it works then post back.

My friend uses an Ovivo Freedom 0 SIM for his phone and said it works fine, he has signal in places my iPhone loses signal (iPhone on O2).

Edit: Not had chance to try it out properly today so I'll have to leave it until tomorrow, sorry.

Can these theoretically be network locked? Someone is selling one local to me (3g) and claims it is locked to T-Mobile/EE... is that really the case?

From what I read before buying one, yes. O2 sell one for around £270-280 I think, on their forum they responded to someone saying it is locked to O2.

Ok I went for a 32 wifi one myself and getting it today (click and collect). I think this thread needs the OP to add most loved apps lol. Are there any really good apps that show off the screen quality and makes people go "oooOOooo"?

We have an Android App thread, it'd be worth going through a few pages of that tbh

Yeah I know, I went through loads, but they are mainly all android devices. I was hoping there were some specifically nexus 7 II aps that take advantages of the full HD screen.

I'm having problems charging mine. When I put the cable in it shows the lightning symbol on the battery icon as though it's charging but it's not actually doing so (54%). The device is only a couple of months old. I assume it's a fault with the mini usb port (quite common on any device with these) but as its so new is there something else I may be missingm

Sounds like a faulty device to me. Where did you get it from?

Yes I agree. Ironically I've just fixed my Samsung Galaxy Note 1 charging port today so I'm quite aware of how fragile the micro USB ports are but it's disappointing to have broken so quickly.

I still love the device so I'll just return it and get a replacement. I bought it from the rainforest and they are usually great about customer service so I've got no concerns. I just wanted to check there wasn't an obvious reset procedure I needed to perform because of a bug for example.

Grab a wireless charger from Amazon once you get your new one, then you've got next to no reason to plug it in.
