*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

It's the size I love. It's perfect for holding in one hand and typing/swyping with the other. I'd recommend the Poetic case as it hardly adds any bulk. I also have the official Asus screen protector on mine; it's a twin pack with one gloss protector and one matte. The matte one is really nice for cutting down glare.

I ordered a smart case along with an anker charge pack. I have the Asus cover but its just aweful, feels tacky and only provides some thin protection.

Any one have certain app shortcuts disappearing from the home screen? For some reason the calendar app on mine deletes itself every so often!

Also when I first got the N7 I had some multi touch issues, like trying to type and button presses being registered twice, it was fixed 100% after an update or 2, but it's now come back a week or 2 ago!! Really makes typing annoying as I'm having to correct every few words, and the swipe typing doesn't work great as when I click and hold it registers multiple touches. Tried out swiftkey but didn't like the layout at all, will give swype a try.

Not liking my n7 atm, have never had any touchscreen problems but over the last week it is taking 5 or 6 presses on the screen for 1 press and random zooming in even with 0 apps running.

Any 1 with these problems too?

The missus just came back from town with a Samsung tab 3 8", even though I mentioned the nexus 7 was the same price and a much better tablet, but her counter argument was "the Samsung is white"

Bangs head against the wall.

Is there any app that can change the volume buttons orientation? I find it so off 'wrong' the way it is.

There's a white Nexus 7 now I believe.

Thanks to MobileFun for providing me with the Sophisticase Frameless Case, they have a large range of accessories for any mobile/tablet device especially the nexus 7 so it is worth checking them out :)

The case is slim overall and has a fake leather textured finish on the outside and on the inside we have a grey soft touch fabric. All of the buttons and ports are accessible.

As you can see, we also have a hand strap.

Fitting the nexus 7 is very easy, the fit overall is pretty much perfect, you are able to remove the case quickly if needed.

One of the areas that I really like about this case is that you can use it as a desk stand, there are two angles to choose from that make it perfect for video watching.

The case is pretty light.

Another feature I love is that the case is compatible with the sleep and wake function of the nexus 7 i.e. when you open the case, the screen automatically turns on and when you close the case, the screen goes off.

In terms of protection, it is great for protection from scrapes and minor knocks but I wouldn't expect it to do too well come to high drops onto concrete...

Conclusion:

Overall this is a fantastic case especially when you consider the price! It might not be the best for protection from high drops but it will protect the nexus 7 tablet from the majority of small drops, scrapes and most importantly protect the screen from scratches. If you are wanting more protection, you will just have to put up with the extra bulk and weight from the likes of the Trident Aegis Case and Seidio Dilex Case.

I can't really fault this case at all except for the speaker cut outs, they are poorly done and cover most of the speaker grille holes.

Pros:

  • Cheap
  • Acts as a landscape desk dock with two angles to choose from
  • Minimal bulk & light
  • Nice finish overall
  • Sleep/Wake magnet function

Cons:

  • Speaker cut outs poorly done

I have that case. Wireless charging also works perfectly though it. You get 3 angles for landscape by the way.

Edit: Actually mine looks almost identical but it's a different case.

I've been glued to the Nexus 7 threads for a wee while now, and my girlfriend bought me a Nexus 7 for my bday (yayyy) - loving it so far, replacing a first gen Kindle Fire HD. Miles better :D

Also just ordered up the official case for this from Google (and for my Nexus 5 at the same time) so despite the silly price tag of the case I'm hoping it's a good fit.

My N7 arrived yesterday... that I won from a KitKat wrapper :D:D

I'm keen to make some changes, especially to the navigation bar. Are there any mods (xposed perhaps) that allow changes to navigation bar layout, size, colour, etc? I'm rooted already and running stock 4.4.2 but I'll be sharing the tablet with my other half so custom ROMs aren't an option.

I bought this

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=24896273&postcount=821

for like £10

and imo it looks better, look at the edges of your tablet those bits overlapping the front on the corners look horrible imo and stick out from a mile off, really unaesthetic design.

it's probably even cheaper now and it has a hand strap, can be turned into a stand, etc too, has a little thing for stylus, etc as well. so it does everything.

i looked at a lot of cases and imo the minisuit i bought was the best looking one, the only bad thing I can say about it is I wish the spine wrapped round like my old poetic case rather than being squared off like a book.

that's the only bad thing I can say about it tbh, everything else is perfect and it works with my wireless charger, etc no problem.

i've always found ebay to be brilliant for cases and cheaper too. i don't want to be spending huge amounts on a case when i'll be upgrading the device within a year and give the case away with it for free when I sell it on.

Can anyone tell how to quickly change the auto-rotate modes without having to go into Settings all the time?

I checked the pull down menu at the top of the screen but there's nothing there other than the time?

Pull down from the top right, not the top left.

Thanks Eliot.

Can anyone tell me if there's a way to swipe to go back gesture? Coming from iOS found it useful to swipe to go back a page in the browser.

Also to scroll to the top?

Picked one of these up on Friday to replace my Surface 2. So far I'm really enjoying the form factor, wireless charging and having the official suite of Google apps amongst other things.

Are they any good tablet widgets available? I'm not bothered about clocks or weather but something akin to HTC's Blinkfeed would be nice. :)

As far as I know this isn't built directly into Android and individual apps need to incorporate this themselves. This is one of the features that I miss from iOS.

I've been looking at buying a QI charger, does anyone have experience of them? The official nexus version looks to be the most expensive, would it be worth getting that over third party versions?

I bought the Nokia one for £20 off eBay second hand.

IMO it's the best I've seen, it turns off automatically when not in use.
